The Maytime
Asthall, nr Witney, OX18 4HW
The tiny village of Asthall that nestles deep in the Windrush Valley is home to the recently renovated Maytime, so named after owners May and Tim who bought the building in 1975. Immediately homely, an open fire, pretty wall lights, exposed Cotswold walls, slate floors in the restaurant, a Cotswold flagstone floor in the bar and the wonderful aroma of home cooking delight customers. A menu of traditional British dishes could include choices such as fresh mussels with white wine and cream or potted shrimps and crab with warm toast. Consider sharing a cold platter of seafood on salad leaves with new potatoes or go for a hearty braised Welsh lamb and apricot pie. Mains of half roast Gresham duck with orange and redcurrant glaze or red Thai vegetable curry with wild rice never fail to please. The tiny village of Asthall that nestles deep in the Windrush Valley is home to the recently renovated Maytime, so named after owners May and Tim who bought the building in 1975.
