A sensitive conversion of the old Midland Hotel, this extensive refurbishment has produced a highly popular pub with food of the fairly traditional kind. Eating in the study is a little like dining in the public library but it's all meant well and largely succeeds. The food is clearly appreciated and can include such delights as Stilton fritters with a lemongrass dressing, though quite what the cheese buffs might have to say about that beggars belief.
