A very traditional English pub, one of only two known that are located in churchyards. This, as you may imagine, leads to sometimes slightly unseemly comment regarding the neighbours, over 15,000 of them laid to rest over the centuries but nobody minds for the place is a haven to good honest fun and companionship.

It is said that there is a pact, whereby the vicar keeps the pub full and the publican obliges by filling the church pews, which seems an eminently sensible way of keeping everybody happy, particularly as some of Banks's finest brews are to be found in the pub cellar.

The cuisine is simple and greatly enjoyed - if you want to eat especially well ask for Judy's ham, egg and chips.
