The Olive Branch
Manchester Road, Marsden, Huddersfield, HD7 6LU
Recently the subject of a major refurbishment, the Olive Branch has lost none of its charm. Acting as a magnet to the local populace, with entries in the Good Food Guide and a number of awards, enjoyment continues unabated. The recipe for success remains largely unaltered with sound ingredients and a lack of any fussiness as opposed to care in preparation. From an impressively/alarmingly, depending on your point of view, large menu such dishes as Scottish mussels with wine cream and Indian spices, a carpaccio of Angus fillet beef with cracked pepper and lemon oil and parmesan shavings, and anchovies wrapped in smoked salmon with a lemon salad command particular attention. From the main courses the eye may stray to pot-roasted breast of chicken flamed in sherry-toasted pine kernels and sultanas, a ragout of mussels, squid potato and basil, or the Scottish salmon in crab and brandy sauce.Recently the subject of a major refurbishment, the Olive Branch has lost none of its charm. A recent report having suggested that dark, plain chocolate is within bounds, the Belgian chocolate tart may meet with approval, whilst for those who don't give a damn there's always sticky toffee pudding, with a classic lemon tart for those who wish to remain blissfully unawares. The wine list is well formed with good value choices below £20, glasses of house wine at £2.40 or £10.95 the bottle, and some worthy high fliers in the upper ranges if you are pushing the boat out.

REVIEWS OF The Olive Branch
Gareth Davies (28 September 2009)
We went to a local pub for some food and it was fully booked, after a quick chat amongst friends the Olive Branch was mentioned, I had driven past it on my way and only one in the party had been before, it was highly recommended. One quick phone call to check availability and we were in. The pub is full of character and fitted to a high standard, the prices on the menu did take my breath but we were committed now! I eat out quite a lot around Huddersfield and I always like to try new restaurants, I can now say that I have found one of the nicest meals in Yorkshire with friendly professional service, but it comes with a price. Just booked it again for our anniversary and can't wait.

I booked for Sunday lunch at this restaurant, taking 3 kids and my mother-in-law - my treat. So, when I saw the prices on the board I was gobsmacked! No matter! - the food was fabulous - and we just made it into a special occasion. My daughter still remembers the food 2 years on (I haven't taken her back). Excellent!

Nando's - Huddersfield
With quality food, friendly staff, quick service and excellent value for money, Nando's is a great place to eat. Don't expect identikit, pre-fab restaurant interiors which are usually a staple of the larger chains; each restaurant is tailored to its local surroundings and customers, offering up a unique restaurant experience to go with the equally unique taste of legendary, Portuguese, Peri-Peri chicken.
