The Pilot Inn

Battery Road, Dungeness, nr Lydd, TN29 9NJ

The Pilot Inn is a superb all year round venue for all the family as it genuinely has something for everyone. The Pilot is justifiably renowned for its superb fish and chips, but also has a decent reputation for a wide range of other freshly cooked dishes. There is no need to book, although large parties of twenty people or more are advised to call in advance. The Pilot Boasts one hundred and eighty covers inside and a further one hundred and fifty outside (weather permitting!), with parking for over 70 cars. It also has one of the most unusual settings in the country; the sea is literally a stone's throw away, with the world's shipping and France easily visible on a clear day. The combination of untamed nature, huge skies and a strange ethereal peace, is one which has inspired artists, writers and countless others for centuries.

REVIEWS OF The Pilot Inn

Gastromaster (30 June 2009)

The most amazing fish and chips I've ever had - massive portions and obviously fresh as a daisy. The place was packed but the staff were still polite and friendly and we only waited 25 minutes for our food. Amazing, since there were queues to find tables. They also have a great choice of real ales and wines.

Bluebell (20 February 2008)

I have been there a few times and always found the food to be good even when we have had to wait a while. Last Sunday after the initial rush, the service was very quick but I was not impressed with our meal as the chips appeared to be frozen. The fish was ok but expensive, and my large cod was a bit on the bony side.
