The Pump Room - Bath
Stall Street, Bath, BA1 1LZ
The Pump Rooms are a major attraction within the ancient city of Bath. Linked to the site chosen for the public baths by the Romans who were notoriously fussy about personal hygiene (wouldn't you be if you'd walked from Rome to Bath via the Alps?) they were established in the 18th century to enable the fashionable folk of the time to drink three glasses a day from the King's Spring. Nowadays most people would settle for a pot of tea and the fine napery, the elegant live background music provided by the Pump Room Trio, fresh flowers and table service offered within the Pump Rooms for coffee, lunches and - best of all - afternoon tea. If the ghost of Beau Nash, Bath's Master of Ceremonies for many years at the height of the fashionable years should appear to occupy the spare seat at your table, you should feel highly honoured. The Pump Rooms are a major attraction within the ancient city of Bath. REVIEWS OF The Pump Room - Bath
Paul Hayes (27 June 2006)
I am extremely sorry to have to tell you that today, Friday the 23rd of June, in the magnificent Pump Rooms I had the misfortune to eat what was promised to me at Lunchtime as, ‘Seared Chicken breast with Mediterranean vegetables’ (I paraphrase) but which turned out to be boiled factory bird with ‘Seared’ style stripes accompanied by equally soggy courgettes and aubergine. Do you employ a Chef? I find it difficult to believe that you do as surely no Chef worth his salt would let such a miserable dish leave his kitchen. Are you content that the sophisticated palettes of our European cousins who visit this beautiful City and have the misfortune to stumble into this Temple of Dreadful Food are being served this disgraceful fare? I suspect that you have absolutely no interest in the quality of the food you serve and rely on the beautiful interior of the Pump Rooms to rake in the cash. What a waste.
