The whole experience of eating at Moddershall Oaks Restaurant is divine! I have dined there for both lunch and evening meals several times and the restaurant has never failed to please and neither has the bar, which has the most excellent barman who is very knowledgeable about alcohol and cocktails. In the evening, from the minute you arrive, you are waited on, your coat is promptly taken, and you are left to browse the menu and extensive wine and cocktail lists in the stylish bar area. You are looking at £22 for a good bottle of wine, and £7 for a special cocktail. The food is delicious, with surprisingly large portions for a boutique restaurant; I can never finish my lunch here. Starters range from £5 to £9 and mains range from £8 to £20, with the most expensive meal normally being a hearty piece of steak. The menu does change throughout the year though. No side orders are needed; the full meal is included in the menu price. Desserts are £4 upwards and the locally produced ice cream is amazing, I think that I read that all of their desserts are homemade on site. The desserts are also large, and beautifully presented! Ok, with a few cocktails and a three course meal and wine for two, you are looking at a £100+ bill, but it is not just going out for a meal, I would describe it more as an experience and I always leave feeling truly spoilt! I would recommend it for special occasions. I would not take children, I do not think that they are allowed in.

We ate at Moddershall Oaks on Valentine's night and were sorely disappointed, given the restaurant's reputation. We were rushed through our meal, the main appeared as soon as our starters were cleared and we were asked to order dessert before our main plates were even cleared. To top it all we were charged for the wrong bottle of wine and after dinner coffee was served before dessert. The quality of the food was acceptable, but there were tinned strawberries on the cheesecake. The whole gourmet experience lasted 45 minutes from arrival to payment. We shall not be dining again.
