REVIEWS OF The Restaurant on Church Street
Nigel (9 March 2010)
We had a great meal with superb service. I would definitely recommend this venue.
Disappointed customer (27 October 2007)
I had been to the restaurant for dinner on a Saturday. Apparently, the menu is new, but the food was poor. My starter of deep fried goats’ cheese consisted of a thick slab of slightly warm goats’ cheese, in an unappetising sesame covering. My wife's merguez sausages were ordinary. Merguez normally is a wonderful spicy delight, and I’m sure far better Merguez can be sourced not a million miles away on Mill Road in Cambridge. My main course of chicken tagine was insipid-no excuse for it now that Middle Eastern cooking is so main stream in the UK. My wife had the lamb crusted with cumin. The cumin crust was fine, but the accompanying black-eye beans were too watery, a sauce which basically made a puddle on the plate. For some reason, the main courses were accompanied by potato wedges, a la TGI Fridays. As it turned out, these were the best part of the meal, along with the reasonably priced bottle of Tin Hat Shiraz Cabernet, which helped dull the pain a bit.
