The River Cafe
Thames Wharf, Rainville Road, London, W6 9HA
The River Café, owned by Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray, authors of the River Café cookbooks, is perhaps now most famous for having had Jamie Oliver work regularly in its kitchen before hitting the big time. Whilst not as trendy as it once was it still produces first class rural Italian cuisine, using fine fresh ingredients from their own courtyard garden. The pasta and desserts here are particular good. However, the menu should carry a slight wallet warning, as it tends to be quite expensive, though its many fans say that it is fair for the quality. A useful point - it has its own car park, a rarity in London.Italian

REVIEWS OF The River Cafe
Bob Howes (16 February 2007)
I've eaten at the River Cafe quite a few times over the past ten years and can honestly say I've never once been even slightly disappointed. The prevailing philosophy seems to be the best ingredients prepared simply and well..and they succeed magnificently. Service manages to be friendly and attentive without being pretentious...and the staff actually understand and enjoy the food they serve. I was once given a second glass of dessert wine because the sommelier decided that a new bottle he'd just opened was slightly better than the one he'd served me. (I'd had no complaints about the first one!).
All the food is good, but I'm a particular fan of the way they handle fish, often baked in their wood oven. Generally the fish is kept simple and perfectly cooked...with a rainbow of coordinating flavours usually in the accompaniment.
Highly recommended...I'll be back there next time I'm in London.

Having taken clients to this restaurant today for lunch I can honestly say this was a wonderful experience. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, he was sweet and pleasant without being annoying, I am only sorry I do not have his name to put in my review.
The food was wonderful and the wine list extensive. There were five of us for lunch and the bill came to £227.00 plus tax which is actually quite reasonable for such a lovely experience.
I would have no hesitation recommending this restaurant to anybody, and I can guarantee a wonderful time.
