The Savoy Grill
Gordon Ramsay's, The Strand, London, WC2R 0EU
While The Savoy Grill's lavish art deco design, all gorgeous dark wood panelling and gold leaf backed tortoise shell acrylic marble, conspires to transport guests to another plane, the gastronomic experience is not overshadowed. Located in London's iconic luxury hotel on The Strand, the recently refurbished restaurant's reputation for good food as well as style and elegance endures. Bearing celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's imprimatur, the menu sparkles with expertly cooked British and French classics. Chef Director Start Gillies and head chef Andy Cook have concocted offerings that are worthy of the splendid venue. Luxurious starters include a creamy and intense lobster bisque with brandy butter or a flavourful baked egg cocotte with smoked bacon, wild mushrooms and red wine sauce. While The Savoy Grill's lavish art deco design, all gorgeous dark wood panelling and gold leaf backed tortoise shell acrylic marble, conspires to transport guests to another plane, the gastronomic experience is not overshadowed. Follow it up with baked Orkney scallops with shrimp butter, Dingley Dell pork chop or roasted Creedy Carver chicken with Périgord truffles for a delicious and satisfying main course. An impeccable custard millefeuille with mango or a flamboyant mandarin baked Alaska flambé will finish the meal on a high note. Your choice of Old or New World vintage from an extensive wine list complements the meal perfectly.

REVIEWS OF The Savoy Grill

What a wonderful restaurant and amazing decor. On arrival the doorman showed us through to the restaurant and told us about the two bars in which we could have a drink either before or after our meal. We chose to go straight in and the welcome we received was very warm. We were shown directly to our table along the side of the restaurant in a very comfortable semi circle as if we had a booth of our own but with a full view of the whole room.
The service was brilliant and very relaxed and not at all intimidating. Every thing was explained in full before we chose our wine; we were offered a glass of champagne. We ordered the tasting menu to try as much as possible and we were not disappointed. Everything was perfectly cooked and extremely well presented. All in all a lovely evening which was finished off by viewing the kitchen on request and seeing where all the action takes place, followed by a drink in the American bar. Expensive for drinks and at the higher end for food prices but worth every penny.

Ate in this restaurant on 13th January, service and food were exceptional, definitely what you would expect of a restaurant of this stature. I opted for the smoked haddock omelette (Arnold Bennett style) followed by the roast chicken and to finish the vanilla cheesecake. The omelette was cooked perfectly, nice and fluffy with a good portion of fish inside it. The chicken again was superb, juicy and tender to the palette, the only complaint being that there perhaps wasn’t enough veg to compliment the meat. The cheesecake came off the dessert trolley, and was just rich enough without being too sickly. A special note must go to the staff as I had informed them I was there celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday and they did place a candle in her cheesecake and wrote 'happy birthday' in chocolate sauce on the plate. Bravo! 9/10
