The Seafood Restaurant - St Monans

16 West End, St Monans, nr Elie, KY10 2BX

Nautically located in a former pub overlooking the harbour entrance and a seascape that includes the Bass Rock, the place naturally induces thoughts of its primary cuisine. Carnivores, however, are not entirely overlooked and the beef is as locally sourced as the seafood. A favourite starter could be the salad of lobster, langoustine and mango with radish shoots, mizuna, basil puree and gazpacho. This is fairly typical of the elaborate and imaginative dishes which are a feature of Craig Millar's cooking, which invariably stops short of ever being complicated. A dessert which many will find hard to pass by is the prune and Armagnac pudding with banana ice cream and butterscotch sauce, an amalgam of so many indulgent flavours.

Service cannot be faulted. The wine list might be regarded as slightly breathtaking, but the quality of the house wines from £16 provides a very reasonable safety net.

REVIEWS OF The Seafood Restaurant - St Monans

Neville (22 September 2007)

We have just returned from St. Monans where we dined at the Seafood Restaurant. It was a lovely village, and a great restaurant. The service was quite outstanding, the view of the sea from the window by the table we had asked for was lovely - and the food, well the food was just superb - as was the wine. But don't take my word for it. Try for yourselves. Those fishing villages in Fife were hard to get to but a meal at the Seafood Restaurant is well worth the trouble.

Forbes (21 June 2007)

We actually got married there in June 2007. The wedding was on the patio area with the reception inside. Food and service was superb. We had the crab tart for starters, I had the grilled fillet of turbot whilst my brother had the beef. Both were great. I think everybody had the chocolate tart for dessert. Nora and her staff did a really good job looking after us, and the chef worked with us over the menu. Would love to go back, but I hear you might want to book ahead as it is a popular place.
