The Secret Garden Restaurant

Mersham Le Hatch, Hythe Road, Mersham, Ashford, TN25 5NH

In the last century walled gardens were an integral part of large country houses and the one near The Secret Garden Restaurant has now been transformed to a working kitchen garden producing fruits and vegetables, many of which find their way to your plate. The restaurant itself is housed within a converted coach house that overlooks the courtyard with an undercover terrace that leads to the walled Victorian garden. Start with a warm salad of venison with marinated carrot and pancetta or melon and strawberry cocktail, perhaps, ahead of a main course of roasted poussin with a chilli and coriander glaze and sautéed potatoes, or medallions of pork with apple and calvados sauce and crispy leeks.

To conclude there's champagne and elderflower pannacotta with seasonal fruits and l'assiette of chocolate desserts to share.

They also serve excellent cream teas and high tea and on a fair-weather day dining al fresco on the terrace is an appropriate thing to do.

REVIEWS OF The Secret Garden Restaurant

Sue and Mick (22 December 2011)

Wedding 20th December 2011. We could not have asked for the day to have gone any better or any smoother! It was perfect! Elsie managed the whole affair superbly and it went like clockwork. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The canapes were sooooooo tasty and everyone commented on them and the winter Pimms was well popular! The meals were exceptional and perfect in every way and EVERYONE told us that the food was amazing! The room looked fantastic and was set out brilliantly -- everyone had enough to drink. The cakes were absolutely 'to die for' and I cannot stop eating the spares! The cakes also looked beautiful and made a really pretty picture! There was just the right amount of room for the disco and what a good time we had for that too! Even the disabled toilet was perfect for my needs! I really have run out of superlatives for the day and I can honestly say that everyone of our guests commented on how brilliant it all was. It was worth every penny and we are so glad that we came to you.

We went to The Secret Garden Restaurant on Saturday night. The place was packed and we quickly found out why, the food was excellent and the service pleasant and prompt.

My only criticism would be the walk from the car park because although it was secure, it was quite a distance from the restaurant. We will definitely go back and we reckon that in the summer this place will be unbeatable because of its grounds.
