The Thatched Tavern

Cheapside, Ascot, SL5 7QG

In amongst all the moneyed splendour of a very well heeled area is this 17th century, semi-thatched building with stone-flagged floors, glowing fires and low beams, redolent of a bucolic past. Even in the 1700s it was a well known landmark and it is said that Queen Victoria's Royal Carriage was sometimes seen outside, while John Brown was fortifying himself inside before his onward journey to Windsor Castle! The cuisine is straight down the line, offered at affordable prices with cheerfulness and efficiency. Dishes such as homemade beef stew and dumplings, sausages and mash, and venison and mushroom pudding appear on tables in the bar while in the restaurant you could find open ravioli with Scottish smoked salmon and Muscat sauce and grilled chicken supreme wrapped in smoked bacon.

REVIEWS OF The Thatched Tavern

Louise Wallis (4 April 2011)

I came here recently and had such a great time I thought I'd write my very first review! We, group of four dined at 'The Thatch' and had a beautiful meal matched with great service from really friendly and energetic but unobtrusive staff. I had a brief conversation with the manager who surprisingly was a young lady. She had a huge knowledge of the wines and the food and recommended some wonderful dishes and wines to match. The warmth and beauty of this pub/restaurant really makes this pub a real treat. I haven't felt as relaxed as I did there for a long time. I will recommend to everyone and see you in a couple of weeks.

I went to The Thatched Tavern for dinner recently with my partner. The place is so cosy, warm and welcoming, perfect for a romantic meal with the intimate surroundings. It offers an amazing wine list, heart warming traditional food and extremely friendly staff. One in particular being Natasha - she offered outstanding service. I would recommend this pub for all occasions. Great evening, we will be back!
