Many years ago The Three Horseshoes began life as a Breedon-on-the-Hill farrier's shop.  Owners Ian Davison and Jennie Ison have lovingly refurbished the listed building, taking care to preserve much of its original character in its old stables, imposing fireplaces, exposed brick, tiled floors, and its unusual name. Antique wooden tables and chairs and an eclectic mix of collectables complete the ambience. Davison and Ison, who were earlier at the nearby Nags Head in Castle Donington continue to weave their magic in the Three Horseshoes kitchen. Snacks and sandwiches are served before lunchtime and in the early evening, while at mealtimes wonderful modern European à la carte dishes come to the fore.

Starters of a bacon and poached egg salad with garlic croutons, and seared scallops with balsamic vinegar set the stage for mains of sliced fillet of beef in Cajun spices with tzatziki dressing, or blackened swordfish with crème fraîche and lime. A homemade chocolate rum torte gives the finishing touch.

The carefully built wine list is most unlikely to disappoint.
