The Three Tuns

9 South End, Osmotherley, nr Northallerton, DL6 3BN

The Three Tuns is an increasingly well-regarded, four AA star rated inn with rooms, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors that can claim a close contact with the inspired designs of Rennie Mackintosh as well as an abundance of fine wood carving by the Mouseman from Kilburn. The result is a highly attractive interior before you even start considering the food and drink. Which is of no mean order. Their website tells you that 'serving food that people want to eat is our philosophy', and this is no idle boast. A typical evening menu could consist of confit of duck with beetroot and apple chutney, pork fillet wrapped in bacon with a cider and ginger meat glaze, apple and red cabbage, and char-grilled amaretto peaches and clotted cream.

Nor are the helpings of any of these sturdy dishes on the skimpy side - remember, this is Yorkshire where things are not done by halves.

The drinks list is a comprehensive collection of fine wines and traditional cask-conditioned ales, and on warm days you could enjoy a drink in the charming, colourful garden.

REVIEWS OF The Three Tuns

Adriantjd (27 May 2007)

The outside of the building does not give credit to the surprise within. The restaurant area at the back is relaxing and well furnished in quality wood furnishings. This sets the tone for what was to follow. The choice of food on the menu is not vast but appetizing. Needs to be read several times to help make the decision as to which one to have. When the food arrived one is not disappointed. The quality of the food is excellent and very well presented. A real pleasure, which warrants taking the time over eating it to savour the delights of the various parts of the meal. The sweet, a sticky toffee pudding, which was recommended by the waitress - this was both moreish and delicious. She was so right. Having stayed in the accommodation everything about this place is - look beyond the front cover as within is a treat.

What a fantastic place! The restaurant was beautifully decorated in a Rennie Mackintosh style, as was the bedroom. The food was heavenly and the service was very prompt and polite. My wife and I had a lovely time and will be certainly visiting again. Brilliant!
