A meal from the blackboard menu could start with Dan's Padworth trout, potted with lemon, dill, white wine and shallots aside char-grilled hot toast, or a country style terrine of local rabbit and free range pork with their own chutney. Main courses stray into Moroccan free range chicken and chickpea stew, baked with a Wellington egg and cucumber labne, or, as a special, a whole wild English lobster pan-fried in butter and garlic, with hand cut fat chips, followed by squidgy Belgian chocolate pudding with stem ginger ice cream or nectarine and raspberry almond frangipani tart with Just Jersey ice cream. An admirable collection of wines by the glass begins a collection which marches alongside the menu with a sprightly step and succeeds brilliantly in meeting the requirements of the connoisseur without resorting to silly prices.
