The Wells

30 Well Walk, Hampstead, London, NW3 1BX

In June 2003, for the first time, The Wells opened its doors for food lovers in the Hampstead area. Situated in an extremely attractive 18th century Georgian building, perched on top of a hill, it trades on two floors with a choice of different dining areas, all benefiting from the light and airy interior. Wrapped around the corner are broad terraces with comfortable seating and on a pretty day you may want to smell the flowers, shake the blossom, tweak the leaves, listen to birdsong, think not too hard about the meaning of life - and have a rewarding bite to eat and a glass of something galvanising to drink. In the open kitchen, on the ground floor, Head Chef Greg Smith devises menus that suit both, lounging on sofas or formal table meals.

Expect to find the likes of red pepper stuffed with vegetable risotto, spinach, tomato sauce and goats' cheese or corn-fed chicken breast with new potatoes, asparagus greens and tarragon sauce. Close with a banoffee pie or an apple and rhubarb crumble.

REVIEWS OF The Wells

brian (23 December 2011)

A great place with a nice friendly informal athmosphere and great staff. Eat upstairs in the dining room or (I prefer) tables inside or outside as you wish. Lots of Hampstead types of all ages here (I mean Bankers, young professionals, TV people etc not starving artists). Also come just for a drink and enjoy the athmosphere on the sofas or Bar area. Food is 'comfort food' of a high quality.
