The Wheatsheaf Inn
West End, Northleach, GL54 3EZ
The pretty town of Northleach nestles in the heart of the Cotswolds, and located on the edge of the market square is a seventeenth century coaching inn called The Wheatsheaf. Even though the inn was recently renovated, it still exudes a very appealing old world charm with its open fires and antique furniture. Good British food, real ales, and great wines complete the picture. The ambiance is perfect to sit with a pint by the fire or enjoy lunch with family and friends. When it comes to the food, it is clear that owners Sam and Georgie Pearman place great emphasis on providing guests with the freshest dishes; the menus therefore change on a daily basis. On the dinner menu, soused herring is teamed with crème fraîche, and apple and shallots as a curtain raiser, while a main course of loin of pork appears with grilled courgette and pesto potatoes. The pretty town of Northleach nestles in the heart of the Cotswolds, and located on the edge of the market square is a seventeenth century coaching inn called The Wheatsheaf.

REVIEWS OF The Wheatsheaf Inn
Barry (26 March 2009)
We recently visited for lunch which was much enjoyed. Everything was fresh, and well prepared. We had a grilled sole and lamb steak and both were superb. Not diminishing the quality of the food, the highlight is the ambience. Original fittings, antique furniture, no tacky plastic restaurant equipment ordered from a catalogue. The members of staff are relaxed but professional and efficient and obviously seem to enjoy what they are doing. It’s highly recommended for those who appreciate quality over bling. An all round very pleasant countryside experience. Many of the Cotswold’s lacklustre and uninspiring eating establishments, and there are many, could learn from them.

We just returned from a weekend at The Wheatsheaf Inn and had superb meals. The tiger prawns were succulent, the burger was meaty and full of flavour, and the crispy duck was the tastiest duck I’ve ever eaten. Combine that with good wines at reasonable prices, a well kept pint of Hooky and friendly service - we had an enjoyable time.
