The Withies Inn

Compton, Guildford, GU3 1JA

The Withies Inn has stood the test of time, right from the 16th century and today, although it has been sufficiently modernised to accommodate a restaurant, it still retains the old world charm in plenty. The low beamed ceiling, dim lights and eclectic interior creates a very laidback and relaxed atmosphere while the pretty garden with the ivy covered pergola is a delightful place to sit back and sip a beer or two. The restaurant offers traditional British cuisine, with the likes of smoked salmon and prawn cocktail amongst starters, followed by escalope of veal marsala or a grilled rump steak. There are some seasonal specialities such as oysters, wild duck and grouse while salads and fish are good choices too.

REVIEWS OF The Withies Inn

Andrew M (12 July 2009)

A very enjoyable dinner for four on a Saturday evening in this authentic 'olde worlde' pub setting. The service was jovial, professional and experienced and the food could not be faulted for its preparation, freshness and taste. Between us we had oysters, mussels and avocado/prawn to start and main courses of sea bass, dressed crab (actually a starter dish) and veal marsala. A good, not over-large wine list provided us with a very pleasant Pouilly Fumé. Not a cheap meal but worth every penny. Recommended for special occasions!

Manon (25 May 2009)

This is such a lovely restaurant with plentiful good food and attentive service from friendly waiters who've apparently worked there for some time. We went on a busy Friday lunchtime and one of us was in a wheelchair - everyone made sure we were comfortable without fussing. Food was great and we left feeling very content.
