The Ypres Castle Inn
Gun Gardens, Rye, TN31 7HH
Known locally as 'The Wipers', The Ypres Castle Inn located a little distance from Hawkhurst, is an eatery that has served its residents for many centuries. Originally built in 1640, the inn still retains its old world charm and grace, reflected in a local weather boarded look, surrounded by lush gardens that provide a lovely view of the surroundings adjacent to the pub. The interiors also reflect the same old style and are colourful, furnished with interesting art and furnishings. The food varies constantly with emphasis on local British fare. The ingredients are sourced locally, with fresh seafood dishes given much importance. Dishes range from traditional recipes of smoked haddock and pea risotto finished with pesto dressing; and sirloin steak with grilled tomato, mushroom garnish and hand cut chips, to the inn's speciality, dishes of smoked salmon and spring onion fish cakes on wilted spinach with sauté potatoes; and pot roasted partridge, sauté potatoes and smoked bacon with honey grain mustard dressing.Known locally as 'The Wipers', The Ypres Castle Inn located a little distance from Hawkhurst, is an eatery that has served its residents for many centuries.
