Three Crowns, The Description
Whoever is in charge of the blackboards, or what goes on them here, appears to be challenged daily, with the result that innovation is the name of the game. There cannot be too many places where roast crocodile with rice features on the menu without eyebrows being raised. Not as a starter either - there aren't any. The extent and calorie- count of many of the puddings would give sufficient material for a thesis on indulgence.
A substantial and thought-provoking wine list starts with bottles of house at £10.95. One snag, you cannot book and since it is one of those rare havens of gastronomic sanity within easy reach of a motorway, you have to take your chances with the rest of us.
