Three Mackerel Description
On a stunning viewpoint overlooking Swanpool Nature Reserve and Beach which - important information this - is one of only eleven brackish lagoons in Britain, a fact mentioned only to draw attention to the contrast provided by the Three Mackerel which would not look out of place alongside Bonzi Beach. In the nicest possible way this is an ideal hangout for beach bums, but without the poverty. You can have a few beers, maybe a sandwich, bowl of chowder, or you can push the boat out and have lunch between 12.00-2.30 and in the evenings meals are served between 6.30-9.30.
The menu carries heavy overtones of the sea with Mediterranean influences, so think roast fillet of mackerel with a mango and ginger crust on a bed of stir-fried vegetables infused with citrus, char-grilled Cornish lamb steak set on a bed of creamed potatoes or poached rolled fillet of lemon sole served on char-grilled asparagus with a lime and parsley beurre blanc.
The menu is supported by a good range of beers and wines, there are tapas all the time, and the decking is sandy and user-friendly, like the livin'.
Your Reviews of Three Mackerel
Sam and Paul (27 November 2008)
We would rate the Mackerel highly. We went on a very quiet night in November, but the service and food were fantastic and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was made from fresh local produce and cooked to perfection. We would recommend it to anyone. The beautiful views across the bay made it perfect. We will definitely return there again.

We were not impressed with the Three Mackerel. The service was abysmal; the waitresses were not very helpful, or friendly. The food was okay, mine was too rich to eat, and we weren't even asked if we enjoyed it. We were given second-rate service, possibly because of our youth and appearance. The place had a nice view though.
