Tollgate Inn & Restaurant, The

We were actually heading to another place entirely and passed by this restaurant. The other place did not suit us so on our way back we decided to stop there instead. We thought our large Greyhound may be an issue but it was not. We were met by the resident Labrador Guiness and another diner's large puppy. We sat on the pretty and large terrace at the front of the property. We could have eaten at the bar if we had wanted to even with the dog. The menu was short but interesting and the service was exceptional. The food was complemented by locally produced beer and cider. My chicken galette was excellent and the summer pudding, truly lovely. My husband's vegetarian choice was a little dull and unimaginative but reasonably well executed. We enjoyed our evening and plan to return.

We enjoyed our hosts - Paul and Ann who made sure everything was ok but not too intrusive. The meal was overpriced, salty and the bill not itemised. How one can justify paying £15.95 for sea bream with a small amount of rice and vegetables.

Still with a better chef and less adventurous combinations the Inn will be a winner!
