Tower Restaurant and Terrace Description

tower restaurant edinburghEdinburgh's first and finest rooftop restaurant has become a must for celebrities, visitors to the city and its fearsomely loyal locals all of whom love the chic and luxurious interior, exceptional food and deft service that are the Tower's trademarks. Spectacular views of Edinburgh's castle and city skyline feature on the menu of this unmissable rooftop Tower restaurant above the landmark Museum of Scotland.

Created by James Thomson, owner of the historic Witchery by the Castle nearby, the Tower is sleek and contemporary, but sports typical Thomson touches of romance and a great sense of occasion. From the tweed banquettes, suede chairs and indulgent velvet hangings to the mosaic bar and sexy aluminium chairs the Tower reeks of an elegance and glamour which mark it out as a contemporary restaurant.

A wide-ranging and flexible menu covers all of the bases, from baked hand dived scallops to game and exceptional steaks. Alongside the famed hand picked natural rock oysters and steaks, dishes might include grilled whole lemon sole, sautéed heritage potatoes with steamed broccoli and cheese or braised venison haunch and kale brose.

The Tower is a member of The Scotch Beef Club, and uses only fully traceable, guaranteed Scottish beef, hung for at least 21 days. An alternative to the à la carte menus comes in the form of the £12.95 two-course light lunch menu, and the pre-theatre suppers at the same price, available daily to make the Tower a very accessible treat. Nobody should be able to say they were priced out of this landmark in Edinburgh restaurant life.

An inspirational wine list of 180 or so wines has won virtually every award going - including holding a coveted Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The list is accessibly grouped by price and covers all of the main varieties and styles with wines from 14 countries and a selection of 16 available by the glass.

With its dramatic seventy-seat terrace and the best views in the city, the Tower is rooftop dining at its most spectacular; you can find out more information on their Website. A wide public seem to appreciate this now well established part of the Edinburgh scene.

Your Reviews of Tower Restaurant and Terrace

Laura (3 June 2008)

Having previously visited both the Witchery and Rhubarb we had high hopes before our dinner at the Tower, completing the James Thomson set. Although I found the quality of food was high, my partner found the portions a little small. The service was quite slow although this is not a criticism of the staff. With people at every table there was just not enough staff to cope and they were doing the best they could. Although this restaurant is less expensive than the Witchery and Rhubarb, I would definitely recommend spending those extra few pounds and experiencing an excellent dining experience in stunning surroundings at either of these restaurants.

Angus and Ria Russell (11 September 2007)

We had read some of the reviews on this site by others when booking and were very worried, so much so that we called The Tower. They set our mind at rest. We were so pleased we did not cancel, as they went above and beyond our expectations. What a stunning evening. We had superb food, and the service was outstanding. Fantastic wine too! Not cheap but when you book the best you expect to pay for it, worth every penny. Do not be put off, book your table now.
