Truffles Restaurant Description
The ancient town of Bruton has its fair share of interesting buildings but none more so than this 18th century cottage restaurant. Dressed from head to toe in magnificent Virginia Creeper the visitor is immediately welcomed into a warm and friendly atmosphere where low timbered beams and open fireplace set the scene for romantic meals for two up to small private parties.
Owners Mark and Deborah Chambers create a relaxed ambience in which they are keen to discuss local seasonal ingredients and methods of cooking dishes from a modern European/French menu in which they take an obvious pride. From the warm homemade, bread rolls to the exquisite hand rolled truffles with coffee there is an attention to detail.
A reasonably priced set menu (3 courses for £26.95) offers starters such as tomato and shallot tart tartin served with a warm Somerset goat's cheese or celeriac veloute with a hand dived Devon king scallop and crispy pancetta, followed by main courses such as lemon and rosemary crusted cannon of lamb with crushed jersey royals, baby aubergine and asparagus, lamb jus or pan seared fillet of wild sea bass on saffron mash with a seafood broth. All dishes are delicious, beautifully presented and can be accompanied by a fine wine from an extensive stock of both full and half bottles.
Whether you seek a lunchtime treat (£10 for 2 courses), a candlelit supper or one of the special themed evening events you will not be disappointed.

Your Reviews of Truffles Restaurant

We found that little gem after meeting an old university friend from Wincanton, just three miles down the road. That was eighteen months ago, and we have probably been nine or ten times since then. The team of chef Mark Chambers and his wife Deborah make the little restaurant's experience incomparable before the food is even being served. Homemade breads, ice creams and sorbets, a chef's complimentary course and three sublime dishes almost make sheer mockery of the 29.95 price tag when compared to almost any destination pub or restaurant.
Nearly all the food is not just local, but is within walking distance of the restaurant, and if you get Mark on a generous day, he might even direct you to some wonderful local foraging sites, to see where what you have just eaten is growing. It’s possibly the country's finest vegetables from the Mill on the Brue over the road, and a little duck pond around the corner to walk off the meal. It’s so much more, including an exceptional local cheese board, local spirits and wonderful theme nights, especially the lobster and Japanese nights. Go, but don't tell too many people.

We frequently go here for lunch or dinner and are always welcomed like old friends - Debbie and Mark are a charming and very talented couple. The food is sublime and the cellar has some delightful wines. They also do theme evenings which delicious and different - and on the first Sunday of the month they are doing the Great British Pudding Club which is an ideal way to spend a very fattening and delicious Sunday! We cannot recommend this restaurant enough.
