The Virginia House Building in Sunderland is a historical spot that has now become well known for its Twelve2 restaurant which has exceeded all expectations in becoming a premier dining location. The mezzanine floor divides the venue into a ground floor wine bar and an upper floor restaurant where you can drop in for a meal that brings the best British produce to your table, prepared in a flamboyant European style. Downstairs, the atmosphere is cosy and you can curl up on the leather sofas with friends and try out something from the taster menus, while sipping a glass of wine.

The menu brings the best of what is in season and could feature starters of potted brown shrimp with toasted bread followed by a main course of cod fillet with fennel, mustard ginger and chicory salad. The Baileys cheesecake with mint chocolate sauce is the perfect way to end and the largely European wine list also has a few notes of the New World to add interest.
