Ubon by Nobu Description

ubon by nobu restaurantWhat do Mel C, Prince Andrew and Harrison Ford have in common? They have all eaten at Nobu, London's critically acclaimed sushi restaurant situated in Park Lane. For those of you who would love to sample the exquisite cuisine peerless service of this unique establishment, if only you could get a table, don't despair; there is an alternative to be found in the equally amazing Ubon by Nobu Restaurant to be found perched on the River Thames at Canary Wharf.

It's no accident that the name Ubon is Nobu spelt backwards, since, at the East London branch of this world renowned restaurant group, you will receive the same quality and unique cuisine, which has established it as one of the most innovative, popular restaurants with clients worldwide.

Nobu Restaurant in Park Lane, the first European venture for celebrated Japanese chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, is no stranger to celebrities and publicity, whereas its sister restaurant Ubon, as one of London's best kept secrets, is the ideal retreat for the rich and famous who are looking for an intimate, quiet meal, free of prying eyes.

Set in London's chic Canary Wharf, visitors to Ubon enjoy spectacular views over the river from the floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides of the restaurant and with seating for approximately 120, the entire restaurant can also be hired as an impressive venue in which to hold launches, special functions or wedding receptions.

At Ubon from a kitchen overseen by Nobu's Executive Chef, Mark Edwards, you will experience a cuisine to die for! Having drawn heavily on his classic Japanese training as a sushi chef in Tokyo, as well as on South American influences gained during his extensive travels, Nobu's Japanese-Peruvian founder has lifted Japanese cuisine to a new and exciting level.

The menu at Ubon has signature dishes that include sashimi salad with matsuhisa dressing, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, beef toban yaki, the legendary black cod with miso and the Anti-Cucho Peruvian style spicy ribeye steak. To add even more sparkle to the evening, why not try one of the exciting champagne cocktails exclusive to Ubon such as Yamamomo Royal, Vanilla Champagne, New Style Champagne and Ume Shu Champagne.

When you take in to account the amazing cuisine, the light, welcoming surroundings and the first class customer focused service, it's no surprise that the UK Weddings Magazine selected Ubon Restaurant as recipient of the BA Award for Wedding Venue 2004. In fact once you have enjoyed the delights of Ubon cuisine for yourself, you will understand why so many of their clients come back time and time again.

As the final thought, this recent quote made by leading actress Kate Winslet will leave you in no doubt as to the gastronomic experience awaiting you at Ubon. "The food at Nobu can be described in two ways - quite simply heaven on earth and sex on a plate!" For full information, including menus and much more, visit their Website.

At the moment they have a special £55 six course promotional menu of their signature dishes, available at lunch and dinner every day.

Your Reviews of Ubon by Nobu

Pal (17 July 2007)

Outstanding. Ate there on a Friday night, the restaurant was busy however not oppressively so, and full of relaxed, happy people who were there to enjoy a good meal rather than people watch. Wonderful views over the Thames, especially later on at sunset.

I stuck with traditional martinis - yes, shaken, not stirred and made as well as I've ever had. As for the food...the yellowtail sashimi truly is an exquisite dish, light and delicate fish steeped in a dressing that literally explodes with flavour on your tongue. The black cod is quite simply an ethereal experience - comparable to nothing that I have ever eaten before.

The highlight of our meal came in the form of sea bass with salsa: delicately flavoured, and beautifully white bass, topped with salsa and sitting on a hot and sour dressing that sent my taste buds into raptures.

Service was prompt and attentive, yet relaxed. I did give average feedback on one dish, the Head Chef came out and spoke with us, and offered complementary compensation in the form of an excellent lobster with wasabi sauce and a selection of chocolates.

Flying colours on all aspects, this restaurant is a must for all foodies who value top quality service and cuisine. Expensive? Yes, and worth every penny.

Martin Baldock (5 September 2006)

Super food - not cheap but good value - service adequate - however the sting in the tail came when with clients we asked for another drink and were told that "the bar is now closed and the general manager does not allow drinks in the late afternoon" it was 17:30 - 17:40 the restaurant re-opened for dinner at 18:00 and we were originally told that we could not have drinks due to licensing laws and could we vacate the restaurant - we were well mannered and having spent over £800 (incl £105 for service) for lunch felt short changed - our colleagues were drinking until 18:00 - 18:30 the previous evening with the same clients. It will take a persuasive client to get me back there in a hurry.
