Some might argue that their lattes are classic pick me ups, best with biscuits in the morning, and others might vouch for the pot of Earl Grey with homemade scones, but the indisputable fact is that the Earsham Street Café is best known for its brasserie and its eclectic range of food. The smart and stylish decor is offset by the smiling service and the friendly and warm welcome that diners receive. Well loved in its neighbourhood, this is one place that is actively sought out by visitors to Bungay as well.
There's a diverse choice of dishes on their àla carte menu, typically featuring starters of seared king scallops with black pudding and celeriac puree followed by best end of lamb, dauphinoise potato, rosemary roasted butternut squash and curly kale, ending with a warm apple tart tatin with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice-cream. The cellar is stocked with over 40 affordable yet exciting wines, local beers and non-alcoholic drinks too.

St Peter South Elmham, Bungay, NR35 1NQ [Map]
Rich in history and brimming over with romance of an era long gone by is St. Peter's Hall in Bungay, Suffolk which combines these dual aspects admirably with two more - superb food and drink, making it the ideal location for a special meal. The decor doesn't detract from the historical features because everything has been restored sympathetically, making this a unique venue for weddings and events. Managed by Wickedly Good Food caterers who provide a cornucopia of culinary delights to savour, they prove that they are as good as their name.
Amongst starters you might enjoy the game terrine featuring local pheasant and rabbit on a bed of rocket leaves with warm toast followed by a main course of fillets of local mature beef fillet served with baby vine tomatoes, smoked garlic and a vintage port jus. A dessert of crushed meringue with cream and raspberry coulis with fresh passion fruit excels on all counts and drinks include beers from their own brewery alongside an interesting wine list.
28 Yarmouth Road, Ellingham, Bungay, NR35 2PN [Map]
Sympathetically renovated 18th century rural pub, this airy, light restaurant captures the essence of Southern Italy with warm, efficient service in surroundings that combine contemporary style with original features.
Neapolitan chef/proprietor Raffaele Tevola combines the traditional and innovative in dishes cooked to order using the freshest, best quality produce with an emphasis on fish and pasta.
Seasonal menu includes ravioli stuffed with goat's cheese and marjoram in tomato sauce, halibut fillet with julienne of courgette in saffron sauce, rack of lamb in red wine, balsamic vinegar and rosemary and homemade Frangelico hazelnut praline ice cream. The cost of a meal can vary rather widely, dependent on whether you choose to stick to one of their pasta dishes or splurge on a starter and main course instead.
Good, diverse range of lesser known Italian wines and digestivos as well as local Adnams ale and Italian beers.
