All Star Lanes - Holborn
Victoria House, Bloomsbury Place, Holborn, London, WC1B 4DA [Map]
Boutique bowling was hitherto an unknown idea but now All Star Lanes deserve applause for pioneering this concept by bringing in the first boutique bowling alley to London. In this 1950s American styled venue there are four slick lanes with an integrated diner, serving top quality American food.
A good array of appetizers include pressed salt brisket with herb, stuffed chillies and pickle salad, and eggplant, cilantro and jalapeño quesadilla. Main courses bring in world influences on to a plate with black shrimp and clam linguini vongole, spaghetti and meatballs and Cajun spiced pork fillet skewers with New York potato salad. Steak lovers could feast on an 8oz rib eye steak and 12 oz New York striploin accompanied with a choice of green peppercorn, béarnaise or mushroom sauces.
The bar is well-stocked with an extensive collection of bourbons and offers an endless list of exotic cocktails. All Star Lanes is definitely a venue that just keeps on giving.

Giotto
52-54 New Oxford Street, London, WC1A 1ES [Map]
Choose wisely and a meal at Giotto can be excellent value but prices do vary greatly for both food and wine so if you're on a budget be sure to look before you order. The cooking is classical Italian with little in the way of surprises but pasta with rich tomato or cream sauces can be relied upon, as can ample portion sizes.

Creation Bar & Restaurant
BookRadisson Edwardian Kenilworth Hotel, Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3BL [Map]
Located in the heart of London's theatre district, Radisson Edwardian Kenilworth Hotel is a good base to explore nearby attractions that include Oxford Street and the British Museum. The bedrooms live up to its 4-star billing with beautiful African walnut furniture, sleek bathrooms with Sicilian Carrara marble, and the abundant use of silks and exotic fabrics to create a magnificent interior.
The luxury quotient continues through to the Creation Restaurant, which represents a mini-theatre of sorts with just a glass divide between the kitchen and the dining area. The menu filled with satisfying modern British dishes opens with starters of poached egg and baby spinach on toasted muffin with hollandaise sauce, and baked salt marsh loin of lamb wrapped in puff pastry, and pan-seared Welsh sea bass are lined up for a main course. A succulent 28 day aged rib eye steak from Dillon's farm in Ireland initiates diners into the pleasures of grilled meat, while the delicious baked thin apple tart and toffee sauce is worth the 20 minute wait.

Ray's Pizza
Basement of Tavistock Hotel, Bedford Way, London, WC1H 9EU [Map]
At the corner of Tavistock Square and Bedford Way, Ray's Pizza serves London's largest pizza. This means a 26-inch pizza with a wafer-crisp crust that's soft around the edges and not too wet in the middle, has bits of fresh basil and a lacing of extra-virgin olive oil through the sweet tomato sauce. After the pizza comes out of the non-wood-burning oven, it gets a dusting of real parmesan. Pizzas of 12 and 8 inches can also be ordered. Free local delivery is available all over central London.
Order the classic Margherita or go for the artichoke and olive with tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella or the ham and mushroom. The New York Hot pizza has spicy pepperoni, fresh green peppers, jalapeno peppers, basil and mozzarella. Extra toppings include meatballs, pineapple, black olives and fresh garlic Italian sausage. Soft drinks are available.

Ciao Bella
Book86-90 Lamb's Conduit Street, London, WC1N 3LZ [Map]
There may be several restaurants dotting Lamb's Conduit Street, but Ciao Bella stands out by virtue of its cheerful retro styled atmosphere and classic Italian cooking. And nothing can demonstrate this better that the décor, partly quirky and partly evoking curiosity with its light blue chairs, and an enviable collection of guitars and photographs adorning the walls.
The restaurant's appeal also lies in its cooking, and leafing through the menu will reveal spaghetti al cartoccio with seafood and tomato sauce cooked inside a grease-proof bag, or a Ciao Bella pizza topped with mozzarella cheese, aubergine, egg and tomato. Amongst starters bresaola rucola and Parmigiano or dried Italian beef, and toasted bread topped with tuna and mayonnaise beckon and grilled main courses are a sure delight with a choice of sea bass, Scottish sirloin steak and lamb chops.
Ciao Bella's resident pianist will be more than happy to play your favourite tunes every evening.
