Zen Sai is a stunning restaurant featuring teak clad walls, water features and traditional hand-carved wall hangings; it's really like stepping out for a night in Singapore...except there's no need for a 15 hour flight with a two hour stop over in Dubai!

The decor strikes you immediately, authentic Asian furniture with great lighting. The staff are tremendous, always a friendly smile and very attentive, while the Malaysian-Chinese-Singaporean cuisine includes classic dishes of the Asian roadside hawker like satay, and main courses take in nori wrapped salmon with wasabi mash and garlic beans, or garlic and chilli rib eye steak with coriander mash and stir fried vegetables.

The dining room is split over two levels, with the upper dining room available for private hire. On the mezzanine level lies the teak-topped bar serving contemporary and classic cocktails including the eponymous Zensai caipirinha, beers from the Orient, sakes and wines.

YO! Sushi St Pancras is a vital gastronomic experience rather than simply a place to eat sushi. This exciting and visually appealing Japanese delicacy, almost a cuisine in itself and going back to the 4th century BC, is fast rising in popularity for reasons of both taste and health, as well as its companionable setting. The restaurants offer a range of delectable nibbles that are attractively presented and revolve on a gently moving belt in front of customers, allowing them to sample a real wealth of varieties and eat just what they like best as often as they wish.

Contrary to many people's perception of sushi as raw fish, it comes in many forms drawing heavily on rice, fish, vegetables and seafood but the great variety arises chiefly from the different fillings and toppings, condiments, and the way these are combined. Often the same ingredients may be assembled in a traditional or a contemporary way, yet creating widely differing tastes.

Some of the most popular types are sashimi rolls, made from raw or seared slices of salmon and tuna and meant to be eaten within a couple of hours of being put together. Other options include cones of seaweed with rice and fillings and the little boat shaped parcels called gunkans. Miso soups, salads and nigiri sushi made of rice with toppings all add to its strong visual appeal.

Great beers like Asahi Super Dry and Sapporo support the food superbly, as well as hot and cold sake for those who want to sustain the Japanese experience. The menu also has non-alcoholic drinks and a limited list of wines and champagne. For dessert try the dorayaki, mochi or settle for fresh fruit.

The experience of having a meal at YO! Sushi is enriched by the unique array that appears as if by magic before the diner, with its unique colour coded pricing system. But the real pull is the fresh, healthy and tasty food that keeps people returning to their outlets across the UK.

Fifteen London

With the sort of publicity that Fifteen has received, it is no wonder that the place is packed to the roof. It is the brainchild of Jamie Oliver and he is to be commended over this project. With the sort of publicity that Fifteen has received, it is no wonder that the place is packed to the roof. It is the brainchild of Jamie Oliver and he is to be commended over this project. In 2002, he took fifteen unemployed youngsters and turned them into chefs - with every part of the painful process exposed to the world on TV - and sunk his own money into the venture. Since then the Jamie Oliver Foundation has continued to take on new apprentices every year with profits from the Fifteen restaurant going straight back into the charity.

As might be expected from Jamie, the menu concentrates on simplicity with good quality, seasonal ingredients and strong flavours. The menu is Italian-inspired but often with a British twist or using locally sourced ingredients, such as potato gnocchi with a rich ragù of Cumbrian lamb and pork, oregano and Fontodi olive oil.

Fifteen London offers a laid back, rustic Trattoria on the ground floor, open for breakfast through to dinner, and a more formal dining room downstairs.

There's no tacky décor, fancy rugs or rusty artefacts, even pictures of a war-torn country are notable by their absence, but still Afghan Kitchen manages to remain truly authentic. And they do it effortlessly, keep the décor simple - wooden tables, potted plants and communal seating - and offer a short menu focusing on robust cooking.

There are four vegetarian and meat options each on the menu, all arrive in vibrant colours and exude richness, from the lamb and spinach stew and the creamy chicken in yogurt, to the mildly spiced pumpkin or aubergine in yogurt. A bowl of pilaf rice, mixed pickles and bread dotted with poppy and sesame seeds make excellent accompaniments.

Afghani cuisine has always remained opened to external influences, thereby resulting in balanced tastes and contrasting flavours, and Afghan Kitchen is one of the better places to experience all this in the Islington area.

Chop'd started off in 2004 on a mercy mission to bring 'real food into real working lives'; now with six stores across London it is believed to be among the leading gourmet salad bar chains selling up to 20,000 salads per week. As more people embrace healthy eating, places like Chop'd are sure to grow in popularity.

How about choosing a delicious Scots porridge over cornflakes or croissants for breakfast or a healthy lunch salad that packs in power foods like broccoli, carrot, green beans, orange, parsley, pumpkin and sunflower seed. A ready to go warm chickpea and chorizo salad is a well-balanced preparation of chorizo, spiced tomato chickpea, mizuna, rocket, lambs lettuce, roast red pepper, tomato, red onion, chives, yoghurt and mint dressing.

Who said there is no such thing as a free lunch? Members of Chop'd birthday club can now enjoy free lunch on their birthday plus avail themselves of other offers throughout the year.

Seems like a good idea to me - dammit only eleven months to wait!
