San Lorenzo
22 Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge, London, SW3 1NH [Map]
San Lorenzo's has established itself as the place for local ladies that lunch with a regular flow of celebrity diners too. Proudly placed in the ever-chic Beauchamp Place, this restaurant was always going to attract those looking to refuel after a tough morning shopping in the area. Dishes are Italian inspired with veal and wood pigeon both being popular choices. Service and quality can be hit and miss but get San Lorenzo's on a good day and you'll be back for more.

Byron - King's Road
300 King's Road, London, SW3 5UH [Map]
If your culinary conception of London is built around expensive restaurants or not-so-expensive-less-quality eateries then think again, as there are still places like Byron that offer some good value food to those on a tight budget. Well, how can anyone go wrong with a burger, you may ask, but this burger chain is not just about a slab of meat slapped between two halves of a bun, here the meat is sourced from small farms, the cattle roam freely in the Scottish Highlands, and the hamburgers are freshly ground every day; surely it can't get more simple than that.
The menu opens up an abundance of inexpensive delights, starting with burgers stuffed with dry cure bacon, mature cheddar, Byron sauce, or corn fed chicken fillet with tomato, mayo and baby spinach. Their salads are a wonderful melange of fresh ingredients such as squash and feta unified by garlic and parsley dressing, and buffalo mozzarella and Portobello mushroom with crispy bacon, almonds and cos lettuce dressed with honey balsamic. Desserts include the indulgent banoffee pie and caramel and honeycomb sundae.

Abu Ali
136-138 George Street, London, W1H 5LD [Map]
For a cheap meal out dining on authentic Lebanese cuisine then Abu Ali is a great choice. Having said that don't expect anything glamorous, here they specialise in keeping things simple such as no advance bookings, no credit cards and no licence. The food however is what makes it worth a visit, from the excellent stuffed vine leaves to the minced lamb kafta halabiyeh and an after dinner coffee scented with cardamom.

The Admiral Codrington
17 Mossop Street, London, SW3 2LY [Map]
Although a pub with a large bar that has a bit of a reputation for appealing to Sloane Rangers and American tourists, the Admiral Codrington actually attracts a lot of its customers for its food, and an entry in the Michelin Guide confirms this fact. While snacks are available in the bar, the courtyard behind the pub has been covered over and converted to a restaurant, with a ceiling that can be opened when the weather is fine enough to dine al fresco.
Their speciality is the Admiral cod baked with a soft herby crust and chive sauce. Even dishes like coq au vin, slow roasted lamb shoulder and confit Norfolk pork belly make delicious treats, followed by a savoury dessert like Welsh rarebit with toasted Irish soda bread. There's a bar lunch menu available, featuring potted shrimps, chilli salt squid, 21 day aged hanger steak and The Admiral club sandwich.

Apartment 195
195 King's Road, London, SW3 5ED [Map]
By all accounts this is the place to be until somebody comes up with something even more daringly extravagant. 195 comes in three parts, a TV room which is available for hire for around 10 people when not in other use, the Salon a sumptuous room holding 20 for private parties, and the Lounge which has space for around 95 and serves what is referred to as 'bar-friendly' food.
This is taken to mean that your mind will be covering a range of subjects in which eating does not play a lead role. Which is certainly not to knock the good range of canapés, the chilli crab cakes and oriental duck pancakes, all of which are tasty and well presented.
The fact that the lady serving you is costumed courtesy of Virgin lingerie might conceivably have something to do with your state of mind, but that's your problem. Just voted Bar of the Year at the Evening Standard Awards it seems likely that 195 is headed for a glittering future.
