Green Cottage Chinese Restaurant
9 New College Parade, London, NW3 5EP [Map]
This popular local restaurant set over two floors on the New College Parade is well known for serving up the best Chinese in the local area. Choosing from the menu can take some time, as there is plenty to tempt you. Both old fashioned favourites such as sweet and sour pork and chicken in black bean sauce are splendid, but the accomplished chefs that can be seen from the dining area are also good at producing authentic lesser known dishes, so don't be shy give them a try.

Gresslin's
13 Heath Street, London, NW3 6TP [Map]
Gresslin's is named after its owner Michael Gresslin and is known for its modern cuisine that takes its inspiration from around the globe, mixing different flavours with apparent ease. Michael has taken the brave decision to keep the menu short, but from a rather limited list you'll still find plenty to entice you and use of seasonal produce ensures the very best quality. Samples of what the menu has to offer include roast cod with butternut squash, Thai duck curry and twice baked cheese soufflé.

Tamada
Book122 Boundary Road, St. John's Wood, London, NW8 0RH [Map]
If it's not possible for you to visit Georgia for a taste of the cuisine, then simply visit The Tamada restaurant, an authentic Georgian restaurant that exudes a relaxed and muted elegance. The cuisine is just right for people seeking a new gastronomic experience apart from the traditional Asian and Italian fare. The food is unusual, prepared from fresh ingredients which are high in spices and herbs.
The menu includes a variety of breads, soups and starters. Guests can relish dishes of chaqapuli, a spicy lamb casserole flavoured with wine and plum sauce served with shoti puri bread; soko kecze, baked mushrooms with cheese; and pan-fried trout served with sizzling baby potatoes and dill. The khinkali, is a ubiquitous traditional dish of Georgian dumplings filled with a variety of juicy meats which should not be missed.
The syrupy black Georgian coffee, served with a morsel of layered walnut cake, is a good end to the delectable meal where coffee can be substituted with juices, lush mukuzani wine or the chacha, Georgian grape vodka.

Stag Public House
67 Fleet Road, London, NW3 2QU [Map]
Brothers Andrew and Jonathan Perritt, owners of The Stag, serve the people of NW3 through a public house that has been a part of Fleet Road for almost a century. It recently opened its doors as a carefully refurbished gastropub with a lovely garden that promises to be among North London's best.
The restaurant presents classic pub food with an affable modern twist, and places special emphasis on seafood, Sunday roasts, and fantastic handmade burgers. Starters of six rock oysters with shallot and red wine vinegar butter and brown bread, or homemade chicken liver parfait make a suitable foundation for roast Scottish Highland lamb neck fillet stuffed with baby spinach, garlic, rosemary and pine nuts, or the jambalaya risotto with chorizo, prawns, peppers, and peas.
The bar, with its cosy leather and wood interior, is a great place to relax over fine wines, classic bourbons and single malts, cask ales, beers, and spirits, while the garden offers heated and covered areas and cabanas that can be hired for parties.

Sahara
7 St.John's Wood High Street, London, NW8 7NG [Map]
This is not a mirage; Sahara is a venue where ingredients really do turn into succulent dishes. The restaurant brings the warmth of the Mediterranean to London with its authentic menu of Middle East cuisine. An abundance of starches, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and sea food makes a good case for the cuisine of Lebanon to become an epitome of Mediterranean diet.
The chefs base each dish on traditional recipes, fresh ingredients and offer a menu that is always varied and exciting with something special for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Lamb tartare with cracked wheat, moussaka - fried aubergines baked with tomato, onion, chickpeas and sweet peppers can get your meal to a great start. Charcoal grilled boneless baby chicken served with garlic sauce, or green beans stew served with vermicelli rice are some of the offerings for mains. A selection of miniature traditional Lebanese pastries filled with nuts and syrup, and milk pudding topped with rosewater syrup, then sprinkled with pistachios, are but a couple of options on the dessert section.

PizzaExpress - Hampstead
70 Heath Street, Hampstead, London, NW3 1DN [Map]
Pizza Express remains a hugely popular bedrock of casual eating. Its popularity is testimony to the fact that across the country, they have restaurants where you will always be guaranteed a good nosh, with children's tastes being well catered for.
Pizza Express has gone even more Roman, and following the success of that particular example of listening to their public have introduced Romana pizzas, including the scorching Etna and the hearty Siciliana.
These pizzas are now thinner, bigger and crispier, and if that sounds like a marketing line, it is. However, unlike many such lines, this one is true, and their quality is always consistent, though cleverly they have still managed to retain a homemade feel to their pizzas.
As an alternative to pizza, try their pollo pesto - cavatappi pasta with torn chicken breast, mushrooms, red onions and mozzarella in a creamy gruyere, parmesan and pesto sauce and finished with grana padano - or the niçoise salad with mixed leaves, yellowfin tuna, free range egg, green beans, potatoes and tomatoes with olives, anchovies, capers and house dressing.
Many of the big chains have come a long way, and Pizza Express is certainly amongst them. One of the first to be quoted on the Stock Exchange - in 1993 - Pizza Express is not a franchise operation and retains tight control through its own staff.
Their wine list - though short - contains some surprisingly good offerings, especially their intense Australian Chardonnay, and a big, full-bodied Merlot from Cusumano, Sicilia.
