In the heart of busy and vibrant Soho, is Melati - the Malaysian and Indonesian restaurant that many remember from childhood. Opened in 1979, it is best known for its authenticity, flavoursome preparations and great value. Probably the oldest Malaysian restaurant in Soho, Melati attracts a wide circle of patrons who keep coming back for the familiarity, the warmth and the great food at reasonable prices. The décor is simple - aquamarine walls with South-East Asian art forms and dragons for wall hangings and simple yet comfortable wooden seating.

There is ample space and crowds are never a problem, but a take-away facility is also available for those hard-pressed for time. All meals are cooked to order within the premises. Begin with the Melati Platter, which is a selection of the most popular starters and the crispy squid with sweet chilli sauce. For mains sample the spicy Malaysian broad noodles with chicken, fishcake and prawn or something more sober such as plain noodles with bean sprouts and soy sauce. For sides try the garlic chicken or beef slices in Indonesian sweet soy sauce and conclude with a hazelnut flute. Delicious food, attentive service, years of experience and affordable prices - Melati is quite a package!

Melati transports you from the madness of nearby Piccadilly Circus into an oasis of calm, with the added bonus of a fabulous mix of Malaysian and Indonesian cuisine. The restaurant is comprised of three floors, arranged in a classically elegant style that makes for a very enjoyable dining environment. Chicken satay and prawn dumplings, followed by deliciously spicy and very filling laksa and a great variety of other noodle based dishes, accompanied by a good wine list including a house red and white priced at under a tenner a bottle, makes Melati excellent value for such a central location.
