Arbutus

A sense of dèja vû may well prevail in the newly opened Arbutus in Frith Street, Soho when Chef Anthony Demetre returns to his old haunts at what, in 1993, was then Bistrot Bruno (Loubet). Now teamed up with manager Will Smith the pair are operating a 60-seater restaurant with a small bar for up to 12 people.

If you want to take a date or a group of friends somewhere they won't forget then try Archipelago for an adventurous restaurant with a real difference. The dining area seats only around 35 and is packed full of treasures such as Buddha statues and throne like chairs, however it is still the menu that grabs your attention.

This small but interesting little restaurant enjoys an excellent reputation for very fine Italian cuisine, courtesy of the talented chef Riccardo Isolini. The interior is carefully designed for an elegant contemporary feel, with the option to dine al fresco in the summer.

Aroma

It is a little confusing when you look for Aroma, as there are three in the area, including two in Gerrard Street, however, they are all under the same ownership and serve a similar menu of decent quality, reasonably priced, standard Chinese food, including some excellent noodle dishes, and some more esoteric offerings, which may not tempt you as much.

Artesian

Located within the shadow of "Aunty" it would be surprising if the Langham Hotel was not as British as the BBC, and then some. Our primary concern is that particular aspect of the hotel encapsulated in the bar and restaurant called Artesian, the deeply glamorous room at The Langham, designed by David Collins and offering all day eating on a scale that is as truly British as the rest of the hotel, the entrance to which always reminds me strongly of a well-known stately home near Oxford.
