Bhangra Beat - South Woodford

Selected RestaurantBook OnlineBook Online

The wonder of Indian food has taken Britain by storm over the past two decades, to the point where it is a serious rival to other ethnic cuisines. Considering curry was originally created for the British in India this a slightly ironic twist to events, but it could explain why every self respecting town, and many villages now have their own Indian restaurant, and the phrase 'nipping down for an Indian' has taken on a significance that excites the taste buds like crazy.

Any starter and main course from our a la carte menu, served with Nan or Rice and followed by Ice Cream & Coffee for £10

Crown, The

Selected RestaurantBook OnlineBook Online

The Crown has the advantage of belonging to one of the small, but most convincing pub groups in Britain. Started in 1995, Geronimo Inns are in a class of their own, with high standards and a lively sense of the wellbeing of their customers.

  • Address: 223 Grove Road, Victoria Park, London, E3 5SN (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Gastropub, Modern British
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £18.00, Dinner: £28.00

Morgan Arms, The

Take a detour off the Mile End Road, and enter an oasis within a cultural desert. The Morgan Arms is situated on the edge of Tredegar Square, a kind of Cockney Eaton Square where a banker rubs elbows with a builder, and life outside the pub gets put on hold.

  • Address: 43 Morgan Street, Bow, London, E3 5AA (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British, Gastropub, Modern British
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £12.00, Dinner: £30.00

291 Gallery

291 is certainly easy to find, firstly the name tells you what number Hackney Road it is and the fact that the restaurant is housed in a converted church means that you can't miss it. Here you'll dine in ecclesiastical style on mouth-watering meals such as borscht followed by braised duck leg bourguignon.

  • Address: 291 Hackney Road, Yorkton Street, London, E2 8NH (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Modern
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £22.00

Albion, The

Albion is located in Shoreditch and is a throwback to those good old days when you could enter a cafe, eat something light and tasty and take home some everyday items such as jams and preserves. This Boundary Street restaurant is more of an informal eatery and is located on the ground floor with pavement seating on good weather days.

  • Address: 2-4 Boundary Street, Shoreditch, London, E2 7DD (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British, Café
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £30.00

Anadolu Lokantasi

  • Address: 117 Kingsland High Street, London, E8 2PB (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Turkish
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £22.00

Anatolia Ocakbasi Restaurant

On first impressions Anatolya appears to be simply a takeaway kebab shop but regulars know different. There are just a handful of tables, five to be precise, so the atmosphere is hardly that of your average restaurant.

  • Address: 253 Mare Street, London, E8 3NS (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Turkish
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £21.00

Anda de Bridge

As the name suggests this bar/restaurant is indeed under a bridge, a railway bridge to be precise. Before you worry about the noise of trains thundering over your head the music, regularly supplied by an in-house DJ, soon drowns out any unwanted sound.

  • Address: 42-44 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, London, E2 8DA (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Caribbean
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £12.00, Dinner: £21.00

Approach Tavern

This popular East End pub may not look anything particularly special from the outside but it's definitely worth further investigation. The first surprise is that upstairs houses an excellent art gallery showcasing some of the capital's hottest new talent.

  • Address: 47 Approach Road, London, E2 9LY (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £32.00
