Belushi's - Greenwich
189 Greenwich High Road, London, SE10 8JA [Map]
Belushi's believe in living life king size, whether it's their huge drink offers or the massive parties that they host. So stop by at the trendy Fulham venue, relax by the sea at Brighton, or head to Greenwich, the unstoppable East End, or any other outlet, you're assured of an all American bar and restaurant experience and like many of its rivals Belushi's certainly know a thing or two about partying.
No doubt their discount deals are a major draw, but having said that it's important not to overlook the food, and being thoroughly American, burgers are a speciality with typically generous portions. Think big, think Aussie works burger, or choose from some inventive toppings like Cajun, mushroom blue, the BBQ bacon or satay. A closer look at main courses could reveal chilli con carne, sausage and mash, fish and chips and sirloin steak, in addition to fresh salads and sandwiches. Haute cuisine it's not, but for well prepared and well priced classics, it's hard to beat.

Silka Restaurant
6-8 Southwark Street, London Bridge, London, SE1 1TL [Map]
This restaurant has been conceived as a calm and soothing antidote to London's hectic life. The design has been inspired by the idea of layered and horizontal landscape with clouds hovering above. Depth is created through the back-lit wall cladding made from different exotic timbers. The frosted frames surrounding the open kitchen and bar emit a soft glow and are the main light source for the space. It is within this ambience that guests can enjoy the fine cuisine and warmth of Indian hospitality.
The menu is constantly evolving, based upon chef Abdul Wadud and his team's fascination with oriental dishes. There are a few standards on the menu, but for the most part, you will be delighted to see different dishes each time you visit. Some of the favourites include lamb cooked with coconut and black pepper in a medium spiced sauce and fresh pieces of chicken marinated in ginger and garlic and cooked with fresh spices and herbs.

The Tommyfield
Book185 Kennington Lane, London, SE11 4EZ [Map]
Victorian inspired, The Tommyfield in Kennington Lane is British to the core with sustainable fish sourced from the surrounding coasts, great cuts of British beef and traditional pie and mash. Its opening marks the 150th anniversary of the first British chip shop at Tommyfield market in Oldham. Exposed brickwork, mahogany and ironwork interiors accentuate the period look. The Master Room, an upstairs private dining room, fully equipped with its own bar and 48" plasma 3D HD TV with Sky, caters for groups of up to 40 seated and 80 standing.
Celebrating British produce and simple cooking, the menu divides into fish, grill, and pie and mash. A roasts menu presents all time favourites with all the trimmings. Lunch or dinner could begin with Welsh rarebit, Tommyfield terrine or whitebait. Then move on to fish of the day, battered or grilled, with chips and salad, pork tenderloin and crispy belly with butternut squash or duck leg confit with butter bean casserole and greens. And finally close with rhubarb and apple crumble or Eton mess. That a pint of excellent cask ale or a glass of award-winning English wine can be good company could be to state the obvious.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - East Dulwich
121 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London, SE22 8HU [Map]
Gourmet Burger Kitchen was the brainchild of three New Zealanders, who craved after the way that food tasted back home. The chain was instrumental in changing the perception of many people who saw the traditional burger purely as a fast food option; instead they are now seen as more sophisticated products, made using fresh, good quality ingredients.
Their first outlet opened in Battersea and today there are forty-one serving scrumptious burgers. Chef Peter Gordon believes in using innovative combinations, with good quality English chicken and Aberdeen Angus Scotch beef among the ingredients, to make nutritious and convenient to eat fare. They offer chorizo and sweet potato, lamb and minted relish, or the vegetarian portabella mushroom among others. GBK sauces and accompaniments add to their taste.
The menu has nearly thirty different choices and if you feel like biting into pure beef, do try their classic burger with salad and relish - available with or without cheese, this is served with sauces like smoked mayo, spicy satay, fresh chilli and Thai red curry, lending the meal varying degrees of spice.
Some, like the Kiwi, are made using unusual raw materials such as beetroot, fried egg and pineapple, while for fans of chicken, the grilled breast with streaky bacon, salad and avocado is a delicious combination. There are a surprising number of burgers suitable for vegetarians with versions made from puy lentils, potato, green curry or aubergine served with goats' cheese and sun blushed tomatoes. Fresh fruit juices, soft drinks and milkshakes are alcohol free options.
A welcome list of wines and beers complete the picture of a relaxed and modern environment as Gourmet Burger King excels in making the humble burger taste so good.
