Mirch Masala - Southall
171-173 The Broadway, Southall, UB1 1LX [Map]
Few curry houses acknowledge the fact that Indian or Pakistani food can be kept simple and tasty without an overwhelming use of spices, and Mirch Masala capitalises on this at all their restaurants spread across the UK. Their cuisine is full of flavour and presents an exciting combination of fresh ingredients that never fails to inspire. Numerous awards and accolades have come their way, firmly establishing them as one of the finest Indian restaurants in the UK.
Their menu offers starters of fish tikka, boneless and tender chunks of fish marinated in spices and cooked in a tandoor, followed by numerous karahi dishes featuring either chicken or mince or prawns to name only a few. They also have some excellent grills and their rice dishes such as biryani are hot favourites. Indulge in the kheer, sweet rice pudding, and sip on mango lassi, a chilled yoghurt drink to keep your cool. Do note that Mirch Masala is BYOB and they serve only halal meat

Palm Palace
80 South Road, Southall, UB1 1RD [Map]
Palm Palace is a modest eatery which aspires to be one of the best Sri Lankan and South Indian restaurants in Southall, and judging by the crowd inside they are not too far from their aim. This family owned establishment has been steadily generating the right sort of buzz when it comes to maintaining the authenticity of their dishes and ensuring that customers are satisfied. It's also not surprising to spot numerous non Asians amongst their patrons who know the food is deliciously spiked with the right proportion of spices.
Typical starters could include fish cutlets or crab claws while vegetarians will enjoy the various types of vadais that are so popular in South India. Don't miss the Sri Lankan specialities such as devilled squid or the string hoppers with sambol. The curries at Palm Palace are also exciting, particularly the mutton Ceylon that can be perfectly scooped up with parathas or rotis.

Omi's Restaurant
1-3 Beaconsfield Road, Southall, UB1 1BA [Map]
Omi's restaurant opened way back in 1976 when Indian cuisine was relatively unknown to residents of Southall. From humble beginnings to being a luxury restaurant providing scrumptious Indian food, it's been a long journey for Omi's. Enjoying the fruits of their recent refurbishment, they are delighted to welcome a mixed crowd, from families to young professionals.
If you are not quite sure what North Indian cooking is, try the speciality tava chicken or lamb cooked on a large flat griddle or the Amritsari fish, a fillet of cod shallow-fried with a dry masala in butter. Vegetarians would be happy to see aloo methi, a classic potato and fenugreek dish or the vegetable kofta, a succulent Kashmiri style curry cooked in a delicious yogurt-cream sauce.
The restaurant stocks Tusker Beer imported from Kenya, and also serves up Cobra on draught, and Kingfisher by the bottle. it is worth noting that they have been in the top 100 Indian restaurants in the UK for more than ten years running in Pat Chapman's Cobra Good Curry Guide.
