Set in the beautiful Peak District amidst attractions such as the Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the lovely market town of Bakewell, The Maynard Hotel has always been popular with ramblers, walkers and climbers. It has a breathtaking view, offers very comfortable accommodation and great food. Part of the Fretwell-Downing group, hotel's banqueting has been operating for over sixty years and has played host to intimate dinners, small private parties, weddings and large corporate events of over two thousand people. The tradition of excellent food served in elegant, stylish surroundings has been maintained consistently.

The restaurant at The Maynard was reopened in May 2007 after a makeover. This popular dining room has huge picture windows which overlook a most panoramic view of the valley forming the perfect backdrop for loving cooked meals. It has an open dining arrangement and can seat around fifty guests. The distinctive colour scheme and modern chrome furniture are elegant. The artwork of local artists displayed on the ceiling adds an innovative touch to the décor and all these create a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

The menu here is both creative and varied, and offers both traditional fare as well as contemporary dishes to suit all tastes. There is an emphasis on locally produced specialities like poussin with lavender, thyme and lemon crushed Boulanger potato, goats' cheese souffle and duo of rabbit. Some unusual desserts are Yorkshire parkin and Bakewell tarts.

The Longshaw bar with its underlying theme of cricket, offers delicious bar meals and snacks. The highlights are their range of hand pulled local and other beers, especially the Bakewell Best Bitter, brewed in the neighbouring Chatsworth Estate. Some of the credit for the innovative food and friendly service go to head chef Marcus Jefford and restaurant manager Marc Ruffell. Jefford, at the young age of twenty seven, finds a mention in the prestigious Michelin Guide and both bring a wealth of experience to their roles and take pride making dining here a memorable experience.
