The Terrace offers a constantly evolving fish based menu. Displayed on blackboards and changed daily, the Terrace cuisine is based on freshness, creativity and market availability. They produce a good quality standard of food and service whilst maintaining a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

Situated within the Millstone Inn at Hathersage, The Terrace is at the gateway to the Peak District and offers stunning views of the Hope Valley, yet they're only 15 minutes drive from Sheffield city centre.

The Terrace was the invention of head Chef John Parsons. John built a reputation at some of London's finest restaurants (J. Sheekey's and The Ivy, for example) before returning home to set up The Terrace.

The George Hotel, a regular entrant in the Good Food Guide, has a Chef by the name of Helen Heywood whose growing prowess ensures that the reputation of this attractive hotel presses ever upwards. Completely refurbished in 1997 the hotel combines modern day comfort with the spaciousness of a building that has about it more than a hint of history.

One of the attractions of Helen Heywood's menu is that it knows no national boundaries, so any cuisine can emerge at any time - and not infrequently does. Start with a Thai basil consommé with King prawns and lime, or live adventurously and go for the cream of Jerusalem artichoke with truffle oil.

Main courses are based on salads, pasta and risotto, fish and meat, say an oak smoked Redwood salmon, a goat's cheese ravioli, a pan roasted cod steak or a steak and kidney pudding of sturdy proportions and content.

Puddings feature strongly and the warm plum strudel, ginger ice cream and plum sauce is a leader of the pack. Cheese buffs be aware that you would be wise to preserve space for some of the magnificent range of cheeses on offer; flower Marie made in East Sussex from raw ewes mill, fourme d'Ambert from the Auvergne, or Lincolnshire Poacher, a farmhouse cheddar from the unpasteurised milk of Holstein cows, to name but three jewels from the cheesemaker's repertoire.

A relatively short but well-diversified wine list rarely strays above £25.

Bob, Cynthia, and Elliott Emery warmly welcome guests to The Plough, a 16th-century inn situated just outside Hathersage, on the banks of the River Derwent.

Many guests use the inn as a base from which to explore Derbyshire, but few know that spending time at The Plough can be a treat in itself.

Enjoy homemade pies in the bar, or sit by the fire and sip on hand pulled ales and world wines. The AA rosette menu relies on fresh produce to offer a mix of over forty traditional and modern European dishes.

Start with sautéed king prawns with gingered fruit and frisse, followed by a rabbit and bacon terrine cooked in brioche with roast fig. For the main course choose between breast of free-range chicken stuffed with Buxton blue, braised celery, chateaux potatoes and port, and halibut poached in red wine with braised baby gem, turned potato and horseradish crème fraîche.

Tasteful and comfortable accommodation is offered in six bedrooms that are tucked away in different parts of the inn.

If you believe in the benefits of organic farming and support the efforts of local suppliers, the Restaurant at The Walnut Club will surely delight you. The Michelin rated club is considered to be one among a handful of wholly organic restaurants in the UK. A starter of curried scallops with cauliflower puree and macerated golden raisins should give you an excellent idea of things to follow. Main courses embrace pan-fried breast of duck with potato terrine, caramelised peach and lavender jus, and a mushroom and spinach ravioli with a fricassee of sun-blushed tomatoes, broad beans and summer herbs.

A generous choice of wines, quality teas, and Walnut's own brand of coffee and organic beverages is always available. Live jazz music is played on Friday and Saturday evenings.
