The Druid Inn
Main Street, Birchover, Matlock, DE4 2BL [Map]
At the west end of the Main Street in Birchover village lies a family-owned gastro pub called The Druid Inn. Owners Michael and Bryan Thompson and their parents Eric and Brenda do not take their 2008 and 2009 Michelin Bib Gourmand award for granted, and work hard to ensure the inn is one of the finest in the area.
Choose from four different dining areas that vary from a cosy bar, and an outside terrace, to two restaurants, an intimate Upper one, and a more contemporary Lower one that has an open kitchen and is perfect for private parties.
The same modern European menu is offered in each dining area, and the dishes are created from scratch using local produce from within the Peak District whenever possible. Start with very well-presented honey-roasted confit belly pork with hoisin sauce and a spring onion and cucumber salad before moving on to a main course of free-range chicken breast with chorizo sausage and wild mushroom risotto.
There is a wide choice of well-kept beers, the inn's very own ale, and a wine list, which keeps most people happy.

Restaurant at George Hotel
Castle Street, Castleton, nr Whaley Bridge, S33 8WG [Map]
Castleton is situated in the heart of the Peak National Park, and home to the Blue John gemstone. It is therefore not surprising that the bustling village is often referred to as the gem of the Peak District! Not far from the village market place is The George, a welcoming country inn and pub that offers a wonderful setting to stay, dine, or simply enjoy a relaxing drink in the traditional bar.
The restaurant is well-known for its great food and fine ales, and the emphasis is very much on quality, locally sourced produce, and an enjoyable experience. A selection of home-cooked meals could include Bantry Bay mussels in a creamy white wine sauce, honey roasted ham shank, and a delicious steak and kidney pudding served with chips, vegetables of the day, and homemade beef gravy.
The bar offers one of the finest selections of malt whiskey in England.
The bedrooms are all ensuite and ensure a good nights rest after an enjoyable visit to Castleton.

Kyloe Restaurant & Grill
The Square, Bakewell, DE45 1BT [Map]
Most famous for the Bakewell pudding, which originated in the kitchens of this charming stone hotel, The Rutland Arms is a warm, friendly, and traditional refuge that takes you back to the days of the Georgian era.
It is believed that Jane Austen stayed in one of the thirty-five bedrooms whilst visiting Chatsworth and working on Pride and Prejudice. The hotel gives guests an opportunity to enjoy all the same comforts and beauty even today.
At The Square Restaurant, Head Chef Greg Wallace offers a wide variety of modern British dishes all created from locally sourced fresh produce. So after exploring the historic delights of Haddon Hall you could settle down to a fine three-course meal of, say braised pigs' cheek and langoustines with a vanilla-scented cauliflower puree and bisque foam; seared-fillets of red sea bream with citrus couscous, fennel marmalade, and a sweet red pepper sauce, and a dessert of Rutland Bakewell tart with fresh berry compote and vanilla bean ice cream.
