Part of the Whitbread family, Table Table restaurants aim to bring great value tasty pub food to an ever increasing eating-out public who like well prepared and genuine food served by friendly staff in relaxing surroundings. If that sounds too much like a dream come true be assured that at Table Table they also walk the talk, and are pleased to have the chance to prove it.
Their well located restaurants are spread across a wide range of decors and styles, and all of them share a determination to provide comfort, warmth and relaxation. Their buffet menus for special occasions are remarkable value.
In keeping with modern trends they provide dishes to nibble or share as guests consider the spread of options on a menu that could be described as British with welcome incursions. So as you share long Italian flatbread, and dough balls and dips, or a sharing platter with an imaginative range of finger food starting with garlic and breaded mushrooms, it's time to think about the relative merits of aromatic duck parcels, a prawn cocktail, breaded Camembert or sticky chicken goujons to name but a few.
Many an innocent dish from the past has been hi-jacked in the best possible sense into becoming what is now called a 'pub classic'. Wiltshire cure ham with eggs is served with chunky chips and beef, mushroom and ale pie, or chicken and chips are all familiar with British tables, be they in the dining room or the kitchen. Now they have been added to by chicken fajitas, a sweet red pepper, crème fraiche and fennel tart, a leg of duck slowly cooked and served with a Bramley apple and cider sauce, or chilli con carne with basmati rice, sour cream and guacamole and nachos. So is the humble burger with six enticing toppings.
The point is they, and others, are all here at Table Table, well prepared with quality ingredients, and presented in a way that makes you hungry even if you thought you weren't.
Getting down to the more serious side of the table keep an eye open for the seafood pie, a delightful assembly of things fishy including crayfish, red snapper, prawns and clams. Many of their steaks are 28 days matured, including a 7oz fillet. All steaks are served with watercress, roasted cherry tomatoes, a flat mushroom and chunky chips. A choice from 4 sauces adds the final touch of enjoyment.
Pastas and salads embrace some well known and loved names, but for sheer enjoyment the hot smoked salmon salad takes some beating - flakes of hot smoked salmon mixed with a house salad and soy and ginger sauce. A real winner.
Snacks aplenty cover hot baguettes with the like of grilled pork loin and Bramley apple sauce, sandwiches filled with Cheddar cheese, or prawns and Marie Rose sauce, and jacket potatoes with such temptations as chilli con carne. Add a bowl of chips for only a little extra.
A well travelled wine list offers helpful advice for the uninitiated and there's an impressive choice of draught and bottled beers and lagers. All in all it would appear that Table Table are more than achieving their aims, providing the opportunity for people to eat out enjoyably, with excellent value for money. Long may they continue to do so.

Han's was the first Market Harborough restaurant to introduce diners to the delights of authentic Chinese cuisine. The rural south Leicestershire market town thus got an opportunity to sample an exciting new cuisine that had long taken many parts of Britain by storm.
You could order either a takeaway on the ground floor or head to the bright and spacious upstairs restaurant and enjoy a lovely traditional meal in pleasant surroundings. The set menu presents a range of banquets that offer value for money, and perfectly suit the needs of those who find it difficult to order Chinese food.
The à la carte opens with crispy aromatic duck that can be ordered quarter, half, or whole, and comes with pancakes, trimmings, and sauce. This could be followed by a platter of succulent Mandarin ribs or fresh sweet corn soup. Main courses that stand out are king prawn with green peppers in a black bean sauce, seafood chowmein, and flavoursome sweet and sour pork.
Beers and wine support the menu well.

Located in the rolling countryside of hunting Leicestershire the Horse and Trumpet is a good example of an estate pub that has come places and is now essentially a restaurant with rooms looking out over the village bowling green complete with its colony of ducks.
Starters set the pace with a foie gras parfait, smoked duck with pear celeriac and hazelnut, a ballotine of quail with confit chicken, goat's cheese and grape jelly, or a lobster cannelloni with soft lettuce, peas, bacon and spiced apple veloute. That much maligned, but now happily better understood cut, pork belly is served with a langoustine cannelloni, black pudding and cauliflower to make a robust and delicious dish, but for sheer effect the roast chump of tender lamb with braised red cabbage and raisins, fondant potato and a cordon of mustard sauce really rouses the tastebuds.
When I tell you that it is not unknown for some of the puddings to arrive with mustard seeds in the ice cream you will detect a note of originality in the proceedings, but for sheer degeneracy order the apple strudel, made with sweet Jerusalem artichoke panna cotta, confit lemon and green apple sorbet.
A fairly brief and interesting wine list offers six or so by the glass.

In an age of minimalist approaches to style and food, some restaurants like Shagorika still prefer to go the old way with carpeted floors, cosy booths, and a bright pink interior. What matters is that the comfortable refuge pleases its customers as much if not more than any other contemporary restaurant.
Located in the heart of the market town of Market Harborough, Shagorika is family-run since 1980. The warm staff and good quality food have made it one of the best dining destinations in the area.
A plate of spicy fried Bengali fish wrapped in mashed potato makes for an invigorating starter, while the nuakali special prawn from southern Bangladesh is a good option for the main course. With 24 hours notice, you could enjoy Emperor Akbar's favourite dish of yoghurt and spice marinated ghee-roasted chicken stuffed with minced lamb and served with pilau rice, naan bread, and a hot sauce. Traditional favourites of tandoori, karahi, kurma, dhansak, balti, bhuna, and Madras are always available.
Excellent Indian draft and bottled beers complement the food.

Whether you're local to the area or just visiting Market Harborough, The Oat Hill Public House and Dining Rooms offers a stylish, modern and friendly environment. The fine cuisine and attentive service at this venue is further enhanced by 'Sunday Sessions' when guests can also enjoy great live music and shake a leg to the grooves and beats.
The interior features a plush bar area with lounge seating where you can sip on aperitifs as you browse through the options on the menu. The restaurant displays an air of sophistication with its minimalistic décor living up to its billing of being a premium venue, while a small garden is at hand for those who prefer al fresco dining.
The procession of hearty dishes could begin with smoked mackerel and watercress pate before revealing the more substantial dishes such as stuffed chicken breast with goat's cheese and red pepper and fennel and rosemary crispy pork belly. The grand finale could consist of spiced apple and pear crumble and hazelnut and muscovado tart.

In the heart of rural Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, The Red Lion Wine Pub is the perfect watering hole for those exploring the area. Warm and welcoming, the pub been completely rejuvenated by Andrew and Sarah Banks, who bought the freehouse in October 2004. In the summer it comes into its own, with a sizeable patio playing host to a good many tables.
A monthly changing menu is well in place and the focus on use of fresh ingredients seems to have done the trick. The cooking is fairly ambitious, taking a step away from traditional country pub style and more towards contemporary British, underpinned by a slight European theme. Expect to see the likes of large marinated hamhock served with mash and English mustard gravy, honey grilled goats' cheese on an onion marmalade filled tart and topped with pine nuts, or a chicken supreme with creamy white wine and sunblush tomato sauce.
With 200 excellent wines on offer, The Red Lion Wine Pub does indeed showcase the best of viticulture from around the world.
