British Restaurants in Grantham:
Main Street, Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, nr Grantham, NG32 1LU [Map]
The Chequers Inn in Woolsthorpe, close to Belvoir Castle has a delightfully rustic backdrop, and this 17th century coaching inn provides diners with a spot of delicious modern British fare. Comfortably furnished four en suite bedrooms just adjacent to the pub make it convenient for those who want to stay over. The atmosphere at Chequers, with its log fires, brick walls and wooden beams, is cosy and convivial, encouraging you to linger over your meal.
From the a la carte, typically expect starters such as char grilled boneless quail, celeriac and walnut salad, followed by pan fried fillet of skate, chilli fried potatoes and marinated Chinese leaf lettuce. Beer battered haddock, fishcakes and other favourites also bolster the menu, while apple crumble with clotted cream helps finish the meal. There are thirty five wines, mostly European, champagnes, whiskey and other liqueurs or you could simply settle for a pint of local ale or draught beer.
Angel & Royal Hotel, High Street, Grantham, NG31 6PN [Map]
Widely regarded as the oldest surviving English inn, the Angel and Royal Hotel, as it is known today, is a historic and much loved property many guests have enjoyed over the last eight-hundred years. Seven past Kings of England have stayed at The Angel and it was in the magnificent King's Dining Room that Richard III in 1483 signed the death warrant for the Duke of Buckingham.
Their stunning first floor restaurant, the historic King's Room is only open on Friday and Saturday evenings and for Sunday lunch. On offer is a weekly changing menu of Modern British dishes that are created using quality produce from award winning suppliers around the British Isles.
Feast on creations such as smoked mackerel with horseradish cream, papardelle and porcini mushrooms with fresh parmesan; pork tenderloin stuffed with sausage, meat, and herbs, and desserts of blueberry samosas or summer pudding with clotted cream.
Carefully selected wines from all over the world make up the drinks list, together with champagne, pudding wines, and liqueurs.
Grantham Road, Hough-on-the-Hill, Grantham, NG32 2AZ [Map]

The ambiance of the restaurant is like a neat country house; comfortable, intimate, and a great place to enjoy a satisfying meal created by Chef Paul Vidic. The dishes are both classical and traditional with modern influences and supported by an interesting wine list.
Amongst starters, you could find confit of duck leg with honey and thyme glazed shallots, and a delightful baked Brownlow cheese soufflé with ham leeks and cream. A choice of well-created main courses embraces breast of chicken, melting Taleggio, oven-baked plum tomatoes, basil pesto, and pan juices, and fillet of salmon with new-season asparagus, and lemon hollandaise.
To finish, perhaps a plate of cheeses or a coffee and amaretto crème brûlée might catch the eye.
