Fourteen Restaurant
14 Bailgate, Lincoln, LN1 3AE [Map]
Fourteen Restaurant brings together a marvellous exploration of tastes and textures through their contemporary British cuisine, all served in a relaxed and unhurried ambience. This Bailgate fine dining restaurant reflects some of the ethos of the rich and historical quarter where it is located, with décor that is fresh, classical and yet completely modern. High recommendations, good service and delicious food have made it into a haven of sorts for shoppers and tourists who visit Bailgate.
Local, fresh produce goes into making some of the delights such as starters of cured salmon with beetroot relish and horseradish crème fraîche, followed by a main course of slow roasted spiced pork belly with a chorizo, chickpea and tomato stew. A black forest trifle with almond biscotti ends the meal on a sweet note. A specials menu offers fantastic value for two courses while cocktails add the right mix of glamour and fun.

Jocasta's Restaurant
Moor Lane, Thorpe on the Hill, Lincoln, LN6 9BW [Map]
Jocasta's lakeside location may well be a crowd puller but one should also account for the fact that although secluded, it's quite accessible from the City Centre. So you could quickly make a mental note for that upcoming business lunch or an evening with the family. The dining area is well-stacked with its polished silverware, double-linen tablecloths and strategically placed tables.
The menu opens with starters of mussels in white wine and cream with garlic, leeks and tarragon sauce, and pressed ham hock terrine with quince jelly. Main courses include chicken wrapped in Sorrento ham, roast rack of lamb, and char-grilled 10 oz rib eye steak topped with Stilton and red wine sauce. From the dessert list choose between an iced lemon parfait with raspberry sorbet, and banana tarte tatin with toffee sauce and pistachio ice cream.
Jocasta's regularly hosts seasonal celebrations throughout the year, which are popular with the locals.

Wig & Mitre - Lincoln
30-32 Steep Hill, Lincoln, LN2 1LU [Map]
Situated in the heart of historic Lincoln, The Wig and Mitre is a long established, reassuringly civilised pub-restaurant sitting prettily on the appropriately named Steep Hill. The bar downstairs is a great place for a drink but if hunger pangs get the better of you head to the restaurant upstairs where oak beams and Victorian chairs work well to bring in that old English atmosphere as you settle in to peruse the international menu.
For starters there could be Iranian sevruga caviar with blinis and crème fraîche, which could be followed by a 'flat iron' steak with Parmesan parsnips and truffled mash, or apple and thyme stuffed baked fillet of sea bass with straw potato and herbed sour cream. At dessert time think rich almond and brandy tart with clotted cream and cherry chocolate trifle with almond biscuits.
Do keep an eye open for Wig and Mitre's gourmet evenings and live events.

The Old Bakery Restaurant with Rooms
Book26-28 Burton Road, Lincoln, LN1 3LB [Map]
Old Bakery Restaurant with Rooms is ideally located in the Uphill area of Lincoln, close to the cathedral, castle and many other points of historic interest in the Cathedral Quarter with its popular mix of original shops, cafes and public houses. Now with 2 AA Rosette's in its bread oven, its previous life as an old bake house is by no means completely forgotten. So it's good to see the brick exposed walls and the red tiled floor still in place; old world atmosphere doesn't come more assured than this.
Everything on the menu, from the Alfred Enderby smoked haddock to the High Farm, Dorrington free range spiced jerk chicken, is a tribute to the suppliers with their names etched on each dish description. The lightly smoked, pan roasted 'Oslinc Farm' ostrich fillet is served with spiced figs, caramelised blackberries and pear glaze. British and European cheeses, notably Lincoln Blue, lead the dessert list.

Dining Room Restaurant
The Washingborough Hall Hotel, Church Hill, Washingborough, Lincoln, LN4 1BE [Map]
An unspoilt Georgian manor house in the peaceful village of Washingborough is home to The Washingborough Hall Hotel, which according to many is one of Lincolnshire's hidden treasures. And even though the building is over three-hundred-years-old, tradition and modernity gently blend there to create an ambience that is pleasing to the eye.
The family-owned hotel can be used as a base to explore the surrounding countryside, and if you're in Lincoln for business, there are three conference rooms, which cater for up to fifty delegates.
The hotel's Dining Room Restaurant offers a delightful ambience in which guests can enjoy traditional British cuisine created by Head Chef Dan Wallis and his team. The produce, from fruits and vegetables, to meat and cheese, is all locally sourced.
Consider starting your meal with a twice-baked cheese soufflé with a smoked haddock velouté before progressing to the calves' liver with sage creamed potatoes and a smoked bacon and port jus. Puddings such as the lemon posset or summer fruit Eton mess never fail to please.

Restaurant at The Castle Hotel
Westgate, Lincoln, LN1 3AS [Map]
Ideally located close to Lincoln Cathedral and the Castle, this Grade II listed building is believed to be the only hotel built on the site of Lincoln's Roman Forum, and so you can delight in the fact that you'll be spending time in a 150-year-old building, and sleeping in beamed lodge rooms that are around 250-years-old.
The privately-owned and run hotel offers modern facilities in a lovely traditional environment, and each thoughtfully equipped bedroom has its own character and is individually furnished.
The Knights restaurant takes its style from the surrounding ethos and is unashamedly medieval. Happily this does not apply to the menu, which is traditional and full of interesting choices from the surrounding countryside. Expect to see game dishes such as homemade soup with toasted parmesan croutons, excellent local seafood like seared collops of monkfish stacked on a cream and chive pool, and roasted venison served pink on a bed of wild mushrooms, in a juniper berry and port sauce.
For sheer indulgence sample the baked apple and sultana crumble with vanilla custard.
