It is not every conference hotel that takes its restaurant seriously. One can think of some pretty fearsome examples where the conduct of civilised eating is little better than a mockery. Happily this is not the case here where a sunny cuisine homes in on the Med. Within a brasserie type setting, dishes are elegantly produced offering as warm a welcome in the depths of winter as in the balmier months when Northamptonshire does increasingly brisk business within the world of tourism. The Brampton Halt is an idyllic country pub situated in the quaint village of Chapel Brampton. Set in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside, the recently refurbished pub, located in the old stationmaster's house, is quite the place for a relaxed lunch or dinner with gastro dishes.

Chef Chris Binder brings a fresh lease of life to the Brampton Halt. He has created a menu that offers everything from traditional pub food to unique specialities for those who are a little more adventurous. A meal here could include comfort fare such as homemade fishcakes, deep fried whitebait, lamb chops, hand battered cod and chips, sausage and mash and steak, ale and mushroom pie. Diners can also satisfy their appetite with hot Thai beef salad, peppered mushrooms, moules marinières, hunter's chicken, marinated salmon fillet, beef lasagne, grilled halloumi and sweet potato salad or brie and bacon sandwich. Sunday lunch has a choice of succulent meats served with Brampton's special roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. After sampling the selection sign off with sticky syrup pudding, homemade trifle or fruits of the forest cheesecake.

A contemporary country pub and hotel called The Red Lion can be found in the small village of East Haddon, in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside.
