If you are ever looking for somewhere special to stay or dine, then this charming country house hotel near Nottingham is ideal. Langar Hall offers a haven of tranquillity away from the stress of city life. Langar is a true country house which has evolved into an hotel and restaurant without losing the air of a family home, children are always welcome. This is made possible by Imogen Skirving whose family has owned Langar since 1868. Langar enjoys a reputation for exceptional hospitality, friendly and efficient service, comfortable bedrooms, each one with a unique style, good food and a sympathetic wine list.

The food reflects the house and its situation: Classical English with a twist. Unpretentious, strictly seasonal, with the emphasis on local quality ingredients including Langar lamb and Stilton fed pork, garden herbs and vegetables. The Stiltons are from surrounding villages and the game from the Duke of Rutland's estate at nearby Belvoir castle. Fish and shellfish arrive overnight from Brixham and Scotland. A typical dinner menu might offer starters such as spicy marrow and apricot soup; local shot game terrine, brioche and chutney; hand dived scallops, creamed chicory or half a grilled lobster with butter and lemon.

And as if those were not tempting enough, the main courses are a real 'tour de force' and could include such dishes as roast darne of turbot, Hollandaise sauce; roast Belvoir partridge, foie gras and bacon; Langar lamb done 'three ways' or roast saddle of venison, peppery port sauce and there are always a choice of vetarian options in both courses.

However, leave some room as when you come to their desserts, which could truly be described as a dieter's worst nightmare, as who could possibly resist caramelised orange pancakes; hot chocolate fondant, white chocolate ice cream; hot passion fruit soufflé or chestnut parfait with coffee sauce. The interesting wine list offers an excellent choice of quality wines from around the world, all sensibly priced. The restaurant is open every day including Sunday evenings.

There are private rooms for 8 - 20 guests, a children's play area and walks for dogs on leads. The conservatory serves seafood and light dishes from 10.00 am to last orders at 6.00 pm. This all adds to the feeling that you have enjoyed a little more than a meal. Langar Hall is an ideal venue for a small family house party to celebrate a special occasion from weddings to birthdays.
