Located at the entrance to Wollaton Park yet neatly tucked away in a leafy area of the spectacular garden and parkland right next to Wollaton Hall, Mr Man's was established by Richard Man in 1987.

With a great selection of authentic cuisine, the restaurant rose to become the most popular Cantonese restaurant in Nottinghamshire, and after more than twenty years, is still preferred by many people from Nottingham and beyond.

The spacious two-floor venue offers an à la carte as well as a popular Sunday buffet menu at prices that do not upset your digestion. Kick start your meal with such delights as an aromatic crispy duck or baked ribs in lemon sauce before progressing to a main course of, say, fried monk fish in black bean sauce, fried pork with mange tout and water chestnuts, or simple but wholesome stir-fried Chinese vegetables. Rice and noodles and a small section of Malaysian satay and curries add to the excitement of dining at Mr Mans.

A private function room is available for meetings, parties, and conferences.

The restaurant opened its doors to the people of Nottingham in 2002, and has since grown in popularity to become a favoured place for diners to enjoy relaxed meals in a smart family-run setting. While Marc presides over the stoves, Daina delights customers with her cappuccinos and café lattes served in Villeroy and Boch mugs.

Marc's signature dish of sautéed mushrooms in sherry cream in Parmesan filo basket, finished with balsamic jus could help set the stage for a confit of rolled noisette of lamb, roasted in orange and rosemary, and served crisp and tender on potato rösti with red wine jus, or boneless lemon sole fillets that appear with prawn and lemon butter and citrus mash.

Keep a lookout for a delicious homemade dessert of passion fruit crème brûlée that comes to the table with a sinful hot rum and chocolate sauce.

Nottingham houses many Indian restaurants, but City Spice is special as they offer an extensive menu of tandoori, biriyani, Punjabi and seafood dishes, as well as their Chef's specials. All their recipes are carefully sourced from the great culinary kaleidoscope that is India. Little wonder then that the restaurant is three years old and going strong. City Spice offers specials like korma, vindaloo, dupiaza and Madras styles of cooking that are individual in taste, texture and colour. They cater to all palates - mild and fruity to the hot and fiery, and offer enough variety for vegetarians too. If you enjoy spice, choose the hot meat over the milder tandoori chicken to go with your drinks. A good option for sea food lovers is essar bora, a fried delicacy with crushed prawns, onions and spices coated in breadcrumbs. Vegans can opt for samosas or aloo chat, a tangy concoction of boiled potatoes tossed in spices and served with tamarind chutney. If you are a mushroom fan, the garlic mushroom is an easy choice.

For the main course there are several traditional curries with chicken, lamb, prawns or vegetables as the base and the diner is truly spoilt for choice. If you are tired of the run-of-the-mill choices, do try the dansak. It is a traditional Parsi curry, which has chillies, spices and lentils cooked to perfection blending its sweet, sour and hot taste. Combined with your choice of breads or rice, this makes a hearty meal.

City Spice has so much to offer that it is recommended you get there early. Also, do keep a watch for their interesting special offers. Encouraged by the success of their takeaway counter, City Spice has a delivery service too.

Le Mistral is one of a group of several new and very perky restaurants in the North Midlands, with an accomplished style and approach, and French flavour. They work on two menus, one a daytime job that deals with the requirements of a working day, offering such delights as croque monsieur, croque mistral, freshly baked baguettes with imaginative fillings such as brie and roasted grape, a soup du jour, minute steak, and an omelette du jour. This is quality food that meets the need and paves the way to something rather more relaxed and elaborate in the evenings.

Expect to find on the dinner/supper menu special starters from the blackboard, pate du jour, or platters, olive, charcuterie, cheese or 3 dips, all substantial enough for light meal status.

Main courses offer good French staples such as moules marinieres et frites, Marseilles meatballs, beef bourguignon, and steak hache, followed by desserts of tarte tatin and chocolate chilli cake.

An elegant wine list offers a carefully selected range of bottles, and is a happy hunting ground for connoisseurs, with a large number by the glass. Their house wine from Domaine de Laroux is a gift from the gods. Continental lagers and bottled beers from UK feature some of the best, including Liefmans Kriek and Marston Pedigree.

If these restaurants do not succeed there is no justice on earth.
