Old Passage, The

Standing remotely on the banks of the tidal River Severn The Inn marks the site of an ancient ford or passage, across this, the longest river in Britain. St Augustine the first Archbishop or Canterbury is recorded as crossing at Arlingham, in 604AD to meet Welsh Christians at the Synod of the Oak, a few hundred yards upstream.
