Restaurant at Swan Hotel
Bibury, Cirencester, nr Fairford, GL7 5NW [Map]
Yet another of those impossibly beautiful Cotswold houses, this one in a riverside setting complete with ancient bridge and fine rural views. More than most the Swan is an exercise in country house living and to dine in the Signet Room is very much a homely experience quietly overlaid with a degree of professionalism that, like all the best of its kind, is understated and sensitively managed.
A leek and garlic soup scented with truffle oil appeals but then so too does the ginger and crab ravioli with a carrot emulsion. A braised blade of Scottish beef comes with a creamy garlic mash and in its own juices, or still in Scotland you might feel compelled to consider the pave of Scottish salmon on a spring onion mash with a lobster chowder and some braised fennel.
Service is impeccable, house wine is and a worldly wine list will, as with everything else about the Swan, delight you.

The Bridge Restaurant
Bridge Street, Fairford, GL7 4FN [Map]
The brother and sister duo of Sandro and Luciana D'Elia warmly welcome guests to The Bridge, a friendly neighbourhood restaurant that gives diners a chance to discover the beauty of simple Mediterranean cooking.
A humble doorway leads into a charming dining area with beige walls brilliantly contrasted by polished wooden tables and chairs. Of special significance is the fact that there is full disabled access in all areas of the restaurant.
The menus allow diners to enjoy a wide choice of Italian dishes that are created from ingredients sourced both locally and from the owners' home area in Italy.
Trust a plate of Ardennes style pork pâté to help you begin; this could be followed by a hand-thrown thin-crust pizza or their very own classic oven-baked spinach lasagne layered with a rich meat sauce, herbs, cream and cheese. Seafood appears in the form of mussels in white wine with garlic and cream, while half a Barbary duck, slow-roasted and served with a sweet and sour plum sauce could keep meat lovers returning for more.
The Bridge hosts private parties at lunchtime and in the evening.
