Ronnies
11 St Mary Street, Thornbury, BS35 2AB [Map]
Even though it opened its doors only in 2007, Ronnie's restaurant and coffee lounge has grown in popularity to become one of the area's most loved restaurants. Chef and owner Ron Faulkner focuses on quality, freshness and locally sourced ingredients to present diners with tasty modern European cuisine.
The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year 2009, Ronnie's can be found in a lovingly renovated 17th century building with period features such as beamed ceilings and natural stonework. The walls are adorned with artwork by some of the UK's leading artists.
You could pop in for morning coffee and homemade cake or a more relaxed time of drinking and dining in the afternoon or evening. À la carte and fixed price menus offer dishes such as a starter of twice-cooked belly pork with Clonakilty black pudding and beetroot chutney, and a main course of grilled fillet of line-caught sea bass with a fennel and courgette panache, sautéed new potatoes and lemon oil.
Ronnie's offers hand-selected wines at excellent value for money.

La Tasca - Cheltenham
70 Regent Street, Cheltenham, GL50 1HW [Map]
Their star player is tapas, which can be had solo or in tandem with a meal. The calamares andaluza, deep-fried squid rings, served with roasted garlic mayonnaise and lemon, is great for sharing, while the chorizo frito al vino, spicy Spanish sausage flavoured with paprika, garlic and herbs, sautéed in red wine, offers a real treat. Chicken lovers order alitas de pollo, marinated chicken wings, or have skewers of chicken breast and pepper, marinated in paprika.
Valenciana is an interesting paella that combines seafood with chicken, and if you have a taste for trivia, you may be surprised to learn that 'la paella' actually refers to the utensil in which the dish is cooked.
Other than liqueurs and beer, there are wines from Spanish vineyards and sparkling cava. All of these, especially the dry rosé wines combine well with tapas. And you would be really getting into the spirit of things if you rounded off with the crema Catalana, traditional Spanish-style vanilla custard, topped with caramelised sugar.
La Tasca Spanish Tapas Restaurants and Bars today have over sixty outlets across the UK, so it is odds on there is a branch fairly close to your home.

The Restaurant at Redesdale Arms Hotel
High Street, Moreton-in-Marsh, GL56 0AW [Map]
Dating back to 1650 the Redesdale Arms is a popular venue among guests seeking traditional delights fused with the quality of contemporary comfort. The hotel is also renowned for its culinary offerings, mixing a blend of exciting classic and modern international cuisine. Indian Voojan
5 Rotunda Terrace, Montpellier Street, Cheltenham, GL50 1SW [Map]
If you're around Montpellier Street in Cheltenham, and feel like treating yourself to delicious Indian cuisine, step in to Indian Vojaan's comfortable and welcoming interior and feast on dishes that have helped it become well known in and around Cheltenham.
You could visit the first floor wine bar for a quick drink or head straight to the stylish dining area. A quick glance at the menu reveals traditional starters of chicken and lamb tikka, sheek kebab, aloo or diced potatoes in chutney masala, and an interesting Goan crab salad.
No Indian menu would be complete without tandoori chicken; the jhinga shashlik or grilled king prawn presents itself as a tempting alternative alongside a mild dish of salmon ki salan, cooked in coconut milk with south Indian spices and mushroom.
The menu goes on to feature chef's specialities of spicy lamb chettinad, and panirtikka bahar, of baked chicken with almonds, cream and Indian cottage cheese. Vegetarian dishes, balti, and curries such as jalfrezi, korma, and rogan josh make regular appearances.
Indian bread and pilau rice complement the dishes.
