Chilli Pepper

There is a good deal to be said for the Cotswolds at any time, except perhaps in winter when they seem to go in for sudden and unexplained falls of serious snow, but even that has it advantages as you warm your customary bits in front of a well supplied log fire in places like Chilli Pepper, where the fires are as hot as their name.

  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £15.00, Dinner: £32.00

Churchill Arms, The

Sonya Kidney and Leo Brooke-Little are the husband and wife team that took over the Churchill Arms in 1997. Since then it has been consistently applauded by customers, guides and critics alike - even that scourge of restaurateurs, Michael Winner, proclaims it as one of his favourites.

Conservatory Restaurant

Calcot Manor has an excellent reputation as one of the most attractive English country house hotels - but not at all grand as it is actually a converted farmhouse - it manages to combine the right balance between formality and friendliness, and many praise the responsiveness of the staff, fortunately there is also excellent food in the restaurant to match to quality elsewhere.

  • Cuisine(s): British, Mediterranean
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £20.00, Dinner: £38.00

Conservatory Restaurant, The

Taking its name from the black Hamburg grapes which suspend seductively above you as you dine in the Conservatory restaurant, the Grapevine is well sited in the centre of the town that styles itself 'the antiques centre of the Cotswolds'.

Crown Inn Restaurant

Not only is the Crown Inn a wonderfully relaxing place to be, Blockley itself must be one of the most attractive of its kind. For those who mourn the passing of the old England this should be a place of pilgrimage thought it is hard to see its faithful guardian inhabitants allowing anyone to change it one jot.

  • Cuisine(s): English, Modern European
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £32.00

Daffodil, The

Think Cheltenham, think Regency, think horseracing - and then think Daffodil. Whoever had the wit to acquire an art deco cinema and convert it into a stylish restaurant redolent of the roaring 20s, deserves a medal.

  • Address: 18-20 Suffolk Parade, Montpellier, Cheltenham, GL50 2AE (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Modern European, Brasserie
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £18.00, Dinner: £35.00

Daneway Inn

Elsewhere on this site a nearby place, and very different sort of establishment to the Daneway Inn, is reviewed. Both are completely relevant to the age in which we live, both can appeal to the same sorts of people depending upon their mood and circumstances.

  • Address: Daneway, Sapperton, Cirencester, GL7 6LN (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: N/A

Dragonfly - Cheltenham

Dragonfly combines a restaurant with adventurous Thai cuisine and a glamorous and stylish bar, this area is spacious yet intimate, its cove seating and dramatic murals, black glass bar and zinc bar top, combined with brightly coloured banquettes and oriental fabrics make it a great setting for trying out one of their many oriental-themed cocktails made from sake, oriental spirits and fresh exotic fruit.
